“You would think, it’s as simple as being proud of your child.” she mused aloud, turning the page slowly and looking up interestedly. It wasn’t easy to explain for Chi, even knowing that more than just herself went through it at Ouran. “They want me to exceed them in every way possibly, I think. They expect me to be perfect, which isn’t surprising-I wouldn’t make a good heir if I wasn’t. But…even though my father’s company is planned out to be the only future for me,” Chi’s voice turned more determined, finger absently waiting to flip the page again. “I don’t want it. And they seem to think I can’t do anything else-“ the redhead cut herself off abruptly, cheeks turning slightly pink, “Ah, excuse me, I’m ranting.”
Her gaze turned back to the pages, almost as if too embarrassed to look at Haruhi before glancing up cautiously. It was rare for Chi to actually tell people things about herself-at least, anything like that-but she hadn’t even thought about it when she spoke. The proud smile accompanying her friends words eased a smile back onto the blue eyed girl’s features again. It was obvious how much the teen loved his mother, and it made a bit of affection rise to Chi’s eyes. She and her mother weren’t close at all, but it was moments like that where she wondered how different things would be if they were.
“Your mother must’ve been an amazing woman.” She murmured, brushing her hair behind her ear and tilting her head to the side. “That’s an amazing dream, Haruhi.” Chi turned back to the pages, chuckling lightly. “It’s not a problem,” she assured her about the compliment.
Chi couldn’t help herself from glancing up and then away from her companion at the new question. “I…” she hesitated slightly, running through various thoughts before straightening and looking at her friend. “It might seem a bit weird or silly coming from someone from my background.” In moments, the redhead managed to resurrect the usual quiet confidence she held, “I actually want to be a physcologist.”

Haruhi shook her head, still smiling, "It doesn't bother me at all, Chi-chan. If you need to talk about it, then it's alright." Besides, it was far more interesting than listening to other people in this school. It seemed like their biggest problems were the fact that daddy didn't buy them the latest car.
After a moment of studying, Haruhi realized she wasn't going to go very far. It wasn't that it bothered her, it was simply that she knew she would have to wait until night, after her father went to work, to study properly. It was alright. She had spare time on her hands anyway.
"She was." Haruhi answered, smiling again. She really liked the memories Chi was reviving in her head. Perhaps the girl didn't notice, but this was the longest Haruhi had talked to someone in this school."My mother was really kind person. A bit rough and would sometimes give a hard time to my dad sometimes though." She chuckled at the memories. "My father wasn't all that responsible and would had rather be staring at his family than actually working... But he tried so hard for her. They both did." Her father even gave up being an Okama for her mother's sake after all. They really loved each other, didn't they?
When it was Chi's turn to answer, Haruhi merely smiled, not at all shocked by this. "That's amazing Chi-chan." She said, nodding along. The girl seemed responsible enough to be something like that. "But why is it that you want to study psychology?"
Haruhi smiled again. Whatever reasons this girl had weren't important. "I'm sure you'll become a great psychologist, Chi-chan." She said, completely confident on that. "Your parents will be proud of you."

“Your parents both sound amazing.” Chi mused, smiling. The way Haruhi talked about her family made Chi wonder, even if only briefly, why her family had never been so close. Of course, she knew the answer which made the question rather pointless. In a way, it reminded the redhead of the Hitachiin twins, as they were closer than any two people she had ever met. “You must be really close.”
Chi put a moment longer of thought into the question, absently running her finger along the newly closed spine of the book with a contented hum. It wasn’t that it was a hard question to answer; it was just how to put it that got to her. In truth, she had reasons that probably weren’t very normal-and she definitely wasn’t outright sharing them-so she had to find a way to cut the explanation. Having forgotten for a moment that Haruhi was there, the blue eyed teen looked up and nodded to herself.
“I’ve always been interested in it, really. It’s so fascinating when you get down to it.” Chi sighed, leaning forward and placing her elbows on the table and steepling her hands. “And I understand it so well. I want to know the reason behind things like that.” She refocused herself on her friend, head cocked slightly to the side again. “I hope that makes sense, it sounds rather jumbled in my head...”
“Ah, thank you, Haruhi. I hope they are.” For a moment, the teen gave a confused look to the brunette. She had been about to return the honorific in her friend’s name, but she had stopped, unsure of it. She leaned further onto the table, gaze turning curious. “Mm, Haruhi, would I put ‘kun’ or ‘chan’ at the end of your name?”

Haruhi smiled widely, "They are!" She agreed, still remembering all those pleasant times. "Dad's a bit overwhelming, but he's always taken care of me, all by himself the last ten years. That's why I don't want to bother him now." And why she was here after class, instead of at home. Haruhi nodded at the last bit. "Though it's sometimes difficult." She mentioned last, clearly unaware of how harsh her words were. "Because he's so bothersome." She shrugged slightly, eyes still fixed on her book. "I don't have any siblings, so he focuses all his attention on me. It can be annoying."
Haruhi's eyes returned to her study partner, following the same train of thought. "Do you have any siblings, Chi-chan?" She wondered. Well, she'd mentioned she had to take over her father's company, but that didn't mean she couldn't have any younger siblings.
But Chi was now talking about her passion, and Haruhi stared at her with wide eyes. Well, it was sort of how she wanted to be a lawyer, really. The same rush Haruhi felt whenever she figured out how to read a particular law or figured out some clue in a mystery novel.
"It does." She replied with a smile. "It sounds like a wonderful dream, Chi-chan. It seems like you'll help a lot of people someday." And by the sound of it, she would manage to become a wonderful psychologist. There was a passion there that hadn't been there when she mentioned her family business.
The next question didn't make the scholarship student look up. Instead she kept her eyes on her book. "I really don't mind." She muttered, still focusing in the paragraph she needed to traduce. "Though most call me Haruhi-kun. I don't really care that much for -chan... it's just too cute." Haruhi turned then, smiling awkwardly at the girl. She just wasn't the type to like cutesy things...

“I think…” Chi furrowed her brows thoughtfully, resting her chin in the palm of her hand. “You’re lucky. He sounds like he would do anything for you. It’s sweet.” She chuckled lightly, aware of how much the two differed and yet they were nearly at ease with each other. “You know, you’re much more considerate than most of the people I know, at least nicer.”
The redhead shook her head after a moment, shrugging. “No. My parents never wanted children, really. All the more reason my parents want me to take over.” She admitted, unbothered.
Chi blinked thrice, pulling her shifting attention on the brunette. The two were so different, yet so alike. It was weird, really, how much more comfortable she was with Haruhi than someone of her own background. The blue eyed girl couldn’t help but smile a bit, amused at the truth of it. She had never been a people person, but it was still a bit odd-even for her.
“Thank you, Haruhi.” The teen smiled back at her friend, hoping she was right. “I hope I do.” Again, the girl focused on the words in her book, tapping her chin with a hum. “It would be fairly disappointing.”
The answer hadn’t given Chi even the slightest clue as to her friend’s gender, though she didn’t mind. “I think I’ll just call you Haruhi, then.” She mused aloud, flicking the page over absently. “It’s less confusing, that way.” She glanced up to an awkward smile, face impassive. “And I don’t much like using honorifics, people like to assume things when they hear them. It’s bothersome.” She informed the other, small smile passing over her features.
