❚ THE FEMALE TAPPED HER PENCIL AGAINST HER CHIN
absentmindedly as she stared at her current drawing, her eyes assessing every detail of the work she had done so far. Frowning a bit, she stopped the motion and picked up her eraser, effectively subtracting some less satisfactory lines from the so far perfect looking drawing. Of course this would be much more easy if she had some sort of visual reference of what she was currently drawing, but alas, she couldn't get into a plane and fly to London just to take a look at the Tower Bridge or go back home where all her pictures of said place were. Either option would keep her from make it in time for the afternoon classes and Haruka wasn't that keen on skipping classes, well, not this soon in the school year anyway. And so, she would have to rely on memory alone.
These first days, the female stuck to the academy grounds as much as she possibly could, as it was easier for one to maneuver themselves here than on the school's massive hallways and floors. Honestly, how did people got around so easily? The place was ridiculously big, and to be honest Haruka wasn't exactly known for her orientation skills (she honestly believed she might get lost inside the school and never be found). The path from her classroom to the grounds was still one of the few she had already memorized and she wasn't really fond of the noisy environment of the cafeteria. Haruka had never been one to feel the need to be surrounded by people all the time, so she didn't really mind the lack of company. In fact, it was something rather welcomed by the female, having that bit of time where you could just enjoy the silence instead of the constant turmoil of the student chatter. Which was why she had yet to use the cafeteria ever since she had first come to Ouran. The students were a bit too loud for her liking, and most of the times she would be surrounded by frivolous conversation in which she really didn't participate. All in all, this was the perfect solution for one such as Sasaki Haruka.
Today, Haruka was sitting on the ground next to a fountain, her back resting against the cool stone surface of the ledge, her legs crossed to the side and her sketch book open on her lap with some extra drawing material scattered to her side. Once she corrected her drawing, the tapping of the pencil against her chin returned, as once again she checked it for flaws. A small smile danced on her lips as she found it to be satisfatory enough. Being someone who had always liked to drawing, and having a special talent for it, made Haruka one of her toughest critics. There was always something she didn't like, a line that wasn't straight enough, a shadowing that had not been well executed, a detail that hadn't been detailed enough. But she found herself to be satisfied with her current sketch. It might not be completely faithful to the monument, but it was pretty faithful to her memories of the Tower Bridge.
Again, the tapping ceased and Haruka returned to her drawing, adding in more details, a shadow or two. The finishing touches. As she did it, she became more and more immersed in her own world, her mind wandering through a million different subject without ever lingering on one for long, gradually tuning out the outside world and becoming oblivious to it. That particular day had been spent mostly studying. Which was a natural for a honor student to be doing. The boy was normally doing nothing else. Even before he came to ouran, that was all his day really had ever composed of. Since not many people tended to spend any time with the blonde. He had had one friend, a girl named Akari. She wasn't here though and he wouldn't be able to see her at all anymore, unless he made a few visits back home. IT was normal to miss people you really cared about right?
As the boy walked through the grounds he thought so. He had to get out of the school for a bit. The sheer noise of everything disturbed him. He didn't really like loud noises. They bothered him, he wasn't really used to large crowds either. Though whenever he found himself in ouran academy that was all there was. Crowds everywhere. He didn't mind them, he guessed, but the noise, the noise had to go. Being a quiet person he didn't like loud noises that much and it made it hard to study.
Akihiro found himself in the courtyards of the academy. He hadn't been here long, so it was no surprise that he didn't really know his way around the place. Which meant most like he was going to get lost, at least once. Which, would probably be today since he had never been to the courtyards before. He normally stayed inside the academy, mostly in his dorm. At least there it was semi-quiet since most students didn't like staying in their dorm. It was either they were in large groups, or that ridiculous host club everyone was talking about.
What was so great about it? As he thought about such trifling things the boy pulled off his glasses and rubbed them with his shirt trying to clean them. Some would say he was rather handsome with his blonde hair and blue eyes, his choice of clothing however, would be the stopper of that theory. He wasn't clad in the school uniform, instead he was in what he could manage, black dress pants and a white top with a black vest over it. Just for extra measures adding a tie. Well at least he tried right?
Didn't seem like it really mattered here though. No matter if he did try he could always hear a few people talking. How he wasn't a "blue blood" or whatever they called himself. So what if he wasn't? It wasn't like he was really bothered by those things. He was at ouran on a mission. He had to survive two years here at the top of his class. If he did.. he would be able to convince someone really important to help him get his sight back.
At the thought of sight the boy let his mind come back to the present. However it didn't seem soon enough, for he hadn't been paying attention, not all that far from the female, he seemed to trip over the edge of the fountain and actually fall in, his arms flailing to try and catch himself. The books that had been in his arms clattering everywhere and the glasses he had had in his hands going flying. Thankfully they didn't brake and landed but a few feet away from the female.
Akihiro let a small yelp out as he fell into the fountain causing a small splash of water, that thankfully didn't reach the female. However, without his glasses he was pretty useless. He could still see shapes and colors and could focus a bit, but it wasn't good. So, this was how much his disease had all ready messed up his eyes. He could only imagine what it would be like to go completely blind and shivered at the thought. He moved his hands around a bit in the water trying to find where the lenses were that would make his sight temporarily useable again.

❚ DRAWING HAD ALWAYS BEEN HER THING. EVER SINCE
she was young, Haruka had been very skilled with drawing. Art in general, she seemed to be good at it and without trying too hard too. When she was younger said passion, combined with a love for engineering had made her want to become an architect. But now, she wasn't really sure about it. Well, there would be another time and place to worry about that. Right now, Haruka was only worried about making the shadowing perfect and not make the whole piece look like crap before lunch period was over.
The sound of footsteps coming closer to her wasn't registered by the female, as she kept her attention focused on the motion of her pencil and the traces it left on the paper. So far so good, and she was doing an okay job. That was, of course, until the much louder sound of someone falling into the fountain brought Haruka back to the real world. And it was an incredibly rude wake up call. Startled by the sudden sound, the female's hand slipped, etching a new and much uglier line across the paper. Across her drawing. The female frowned heavily at this, wondering who could have been so rude as to interrupt her in the middle of her drawing.
Placing the small notebook at her side, Haruka got up and looked towards the fountain where the person who had made her ruin her work was and her frown deepened a bit. Of all things, she hadn't been expecting to find someone in the fountain. Perhaps some dropped books, or a bag, but never a person. As she walked towards this new person (she knew she had seen his face before...) a small glint brought her attention to the ground where a pair of glasses lay discarded and the female picked them up, figuring they might belong to the person trashing about in the fountain.
It wasn't until Haruka got closer to the boy that she finally realized who it was. "The... honor student?" she asked aloud, trying to remember his name. It was pointless. She had never been too good with names, and she'd been meeting so many new persons the past days she just couldn't keep track. "Excuse me..." she called out to him, hoping to get his attention "What are you doing in there?"
((occ: sorry for the delay, but my internet decided it would be nice to take a break -.-' and it's a bit crappy too...))

Reckless. Incompetent. Idiotic. Dumbass. Completely and socially awkward. The words kept circling in the blonde's head. He had never felt so embarrassed before. Of course, as soon as he came to the school that was filled with people that were rich beyond anything the blonde had ever had, he had to make himself look like a complete fool. He cursed in his head, something he didn't do often, for being so incompetent. He had never meant to fall into a fountain especially in front of someone. Though, he shouldn't be complaining to much now should he? Especially since he couldn't really see well and she was his only hope to regain that bit of sight that was provided with his glasses.
He froze for a moment as he concentrated on his hearing instead of his sight, which was practically useless at the moment. He could hear someone, and his mind slightly brought him back to the present. He could remember seeing someone out of the corner of his eyes as he passed by them. Oh great, a complete fool all ready, and now it was going to be made worse by someone laughing at him. He frowned and he stopped his useless flailing that didn't seem to be helping at all. He really didn't know what to think, and for a slight moment, he actually began to regret coming to the school. He had never been good socially and now he had all ready made a full of himself, was he really meant to be here?
His bright blue eyes closed and he could feel a few of his blonde bangs fall into his face. He didn't like being yelled at let alone being laughed at. It was one of his few weakness'. He hated being rejected, perhaps that was why he spent so much time alone. Afraid that if he ever did become active socially he would constantly be hurt emotionally by others, something the blonde just couldn't stand to feel. He had to much to deal with all ready, he didn't need that too. He let his body shake slightly, but it probably seemed like he was just cold from the water of the fountain. Only when he heard the female's words did he seem to come back a bit.
His blue eyes opened again and he looked in the direction of the voice. He didn't know if he was directly looking at her or not, and hoped she wouldn't get mad at him for that. "Y-Yes... My name is Akihiro Natsuno, second year, honor student. " he said. He didn't talk much but since he had interrupted her he guessed he owed her his voice if anything for his disturbance. He tilted his head slightly as if that would make him see better as she seemed to call out to him now. He felt his face heat up in a darkened blush of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention and I tripped and fell into the fountain. I'm sorry if I disturbed you. I didn't meant to do so." he answered once again. But it wasn't like he could do anything without his lens' that gave him temporary sight. "Is.. there by any chance.. that you see my glasses anywhere?" he asked softly. He didn't know what would come of asking her for help. He didn't know if she would laugh at him or actually help. The anticipation alone made the boy fearful. He looked down not allowing his eyes to look up even if he was looking at her.
He felt totally and utterly useless and stupid. No wonder so many students thought poorly of his financial status. With kids like him who made so many mistakes, he only wondered what she thought of him. In the back of his mind something small stirred and actually wondered what she looked like, and what facial expression she had on to look at him.

❚ WITH THE WAY SHE HAD BEEN RAISED, HARUKA
became what one could call 'blind' towards social status. Sure she knew that she had more money than the average person. Okay, a lot more money than the average people, but her parents had always tried to make her see the value of money, and that she couldn't always rely on it. More importantly, she was never spoiled. And while she did get what she wanted, she would only be granted said thing if she proved she deserved it. Which was more that could be said about some of the students at Ouran, with their snobby attitudes and their 'I always get what I want' air. Unlike them, Haruka didn't really mind the honor students. She couldn't claim to understand their world, but she wasn't bothered by them.
Unless, of course, they decided to interrupt her and ruin her work.
She was certain the other boy hadn't done it on purpose (well, if he had, he certainly had an extravagant way to do things) yet, the female couldn't help but feel a bit peeved at the fact that the drawing she'd been working for quite some time now had been ruined. Well, there was no use crying about it now, or yelling at him... none of it would un-do what had been done. Besides, the male in front of her seemed to be more troubled than her sketch.
His introduction confirmed her suspicions, and Haruka made a mental note of his name, after scolding herself for not even knowing the name of her classmates. "Honor student - Akihiro Natsuno" she repeated to herself, hoping that this time it would stick. She was so busy trying to keep this in her head that she barely registered his following words. An apology, apparently, followed by a question about his glasses' whereabouts. The female blinked a couple of times, focusing her attention on the spectacles she held in her hand and nodded. "Yes, they were on the ground" Haruka replied, bringing said item to eye level to scan the lenses for scratches, a small smile finding it's way to her lips once she found none. "You were quite lucky you didn't break them. Here" she added, holding out her hand for him to take them, not really thinking about how compromised might his eyesight be without them.
As she was doing this, the female realized she had neither introduced herself, nor given him any response to his apology. In her defense, returning him is glasses was far more important that all of that. "And don't worry about it. There wasn't any damage done and you didn't do it on purpose so it's okay." Well, technically, Haruka had been quite annoyed at the situation, but it seemed quite silly for her to start ranting about how he had made her ruin her drawing when he had managed to fall into a fountain and loose is glasses in the process. It didn't quite compare.
"It's... nice to meet you Akihiro, given the circumstances. I'm Haruka Sasaki. We're in the same class." Haruka couldn't help but feel a tad silly as she introduced herself. After all, she was only holding a par of glasses to a dripping wet boy that had just fallen into a fountain... but he had given her his name, so it was only fair she did the same.

He didn't know the last time he had felt so useless. Sure, there where times even in his own social group that kids made fun of him. Whether you where rich, middle class, or even poor, it didn't matter, there was always someone that would tease and hurt you. It was a simple fact that you couldn't run away from. The blonde knowing and understanding this to be a simple truth. He wasn't going to escape that, and yet, feeling useless still made him hurt here just as much as it did at his old school.
He could face the facts, when he wasn't paying attention things like this happened. Especially things that made him look completely idiotic and only made it worse. He had just wanted a chance to fit in here, that was it. Maybe make a few friends, ones he could actually rely on. It didn't matter to him status wise, though in his mind the slight fact that after two years he wouldn't ever see those trusted friends again. It was just like leaving his home and school all over again. And the feeling made Akihiro hurt inside, but he couldn't just go through the two years alone could he? He liked the quiet, but not having one friend.. that would be hard.
His mind returned to his body as he heard the female speak. So.. she had his glasses? No wonder his pointless flails and searching in the fountain for them were useless. They weren't in the fountain with him. He had thrown them when he had fallen. A slight flinch came.. what if they were broken? How in earth would he make it back to his dorm to find his contacts? Oh dear... this was not going to be good. However, the girl's next words quickly put his fears to rest. So they hadn't broken, thank goodness, he guessed he owed the female a thank you at least and actually quite a lot.
When she held out his glasses he couldn't see very well. The vision he had was starting to give him a headache. He could just barely make out her form and somewhat of her hand and his glasses. He reached out slightly assuming she was handing him them, but missed her hand entirely and frowned. Well, how stupid did he look now? He had totally missed her hand and he was lucky he hadn't slipped and fallen chest first back into the water. He frowned slightly.
"I-I apologize.. I-I can't see well at all.. p-please forgive me." he said shakily. He didn't want her to think he was just playing a game and make her upset. At that point he didn't know that Haruka was the exception of some of the kids he had all ready met here. He just didn't want to cause any more trouble. Especially if she got mad at him and crushed his glasses. It was horrible to feel so helpless without them. It was the worst thing anyone could feel, not able to do anything and be at the mercy of someone else who you didn't know. Especially when you where an outcast like Akihiro was, anything could happen.
Her reply however put his slightly worried mind at ease. She seemed nice and he was glad that of all people that had seen him do such a thing, it was here. He instantly started feeling comfortable again and a slight bit of his shaking died down. However, if he stayed in the fountain much longer he was probably going to get sick, so he really should get out. Trying to get up without his glasses though was suicide. Especially since hew as all ready getting a headache from his current sight.
A smile formed his face though at her words. She was happy to meet him even after what had just happened? He would be happy to get closer to the female, it was helpful they were in the same class. He would of really liked to become friends with her but that was pushing it a little far. "Its nice to meet you Sasaki-sempai." he said. He had the utmost respect for her and he didn't want to lose that now. So he was careful to use her last name with a term of honor attached, teacher to be specific. If she have him permission to use her first name then he would but not until.
Hmm.. perhaps falling into the fountain wasn't as bad as he had thought.

❚ NOW, THE FEMALE FELT LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT,
standing there with her hand outstretched holding out a pair of glasses to someone who clearly couldn't see. Haruka felt like kicking herself for being so thoughtless as it had been pretty obvious that with the boy's previous actions his sight was more than just a little affected, but as usual, she had failed to notice the clear signs that would tell her just that. Holding out the glasses for someone who obviously didn't see well was, without a doubt, the logical thing to do. This lack of understanding about the people around her was something that the female was beginning to find incredibly annoying. But people were... strange, and most of the times Haruka failed to understand the meanings behind their actions, unless she was directly told what they meant.
With a sigh, the female took another step towards the fountain's ledge, dismissing his apology. "You don't need to apologize Natsuno-san. If anyone is at fault here, it would be me. And there's no need to call me that. You can call me Haruka if you want". It was something that had happened while she was abroad. Being in an English school were people hardly ever used their last names on a regular basis, Haruka had gotten used to being called by her first name right from the very first meeting. But, even if that weren't the case, she wouldn't have wanted to be addressed in such a way. It made her slightly uncomfortable that someone who was probably her age would use such a term to address her.
With that matter settled, now she had to figure how to effectively return him his glasses, as simply handing them out had proven to be quite useless. It didn't took her long for her to figure out how to do it, but she'd have to be careful. "Now please, stand still, I don't wanna fall in as well." falling into the fountain while wearing the school's uniform would be incredibly troublesome. She had never tried it out, but she figured that the dress she was wearing might weight a ton wen wet. Speaking of which, she only seemed to notice now that Akihiro was still standing inside the fountain, and that might not be to good for him (she doubted the school kept the fountains heated). Again, she scolded herself for not thinking about it sooner, but the glasses problem had distracted her from it. Well, once she dealt with that, she would see that he got some dry clothes. But first thing's first, returning the spectacles to Akihiro's face without joining him in the water.
Biting down on her bottom lip, the female leaned forward, holding the problematic item to the boy's face, and hoping (more like sending out silent prayers to all deities known) that he wouldn't make any sudden movements and drag her to the water.
((and here it is! my super late, super lame post... in my defense, i had a test yesterday, that's why i couldn't reply earlier *damn you genetics!* anyway, if you want me to change anything, let me know))

He didn't know what was worse to be honest. Him getting even more wet or the fact that he didn't know how she felt about all this. Did he embarrass her? Did she hate him even more now? She had been nice enough to hand him his glasses and he had completely missed her hand and almost fallen back into the fountain again. He really didn't know what to feel about it. He definitely wasn't feeling very good at the moment, his stomach felt like it was doing so many jumps it wasn't funny. He frowned as he kept his head down and muttered out an apology to the girl.
His eyes however lifted when the female once more talked to him kindly. A small smile forming over his soft face. He didn't feel as bad now, sure he felt like an idiot but it wasn't as bad. He didn't think it would be this easy to talk to one of them. He should of known better, it didn't matter if someone had money or not, they were still human right? That didn't make them a different species. Or at least that thought worked with this female. She didn't seem to be as high and mighty as Akihiro imagined at all. He couldn't help but laugh softly.
"T-Thanks.. I was never really good at all that formal stuff. I've always been really clumsy.. so I'm used to apologizing a lot. And.. its not your fault either.. so lets just call it a accident." he said with a bright smile on his face. Even without the ability to see he was having a nice time just talking to the female. He enjoyed spending time with her and he hoped they could be friends after this, of course if she didn't mind his clumsiness. "Also, Haruka-chan if I can call you that.. please call me Akihiro.. or Aki if you would like. Either would work."
The smile hadn't left his face. To be honest Aki couldn't remember the last time he smiled this much unless he was around his old friend. He guessed he had made a friend in Haruka and only hopped it would stay that way. Akihiro had slightly traveled into his own thoughts so the next few moments seemed to pass by without his immediate attention. However thankfully he did catch her words. He wasn't supposed to move hmm?
Akihiro could do that, the very least for her help and kindness for a new student, let alone a honor student like him. He held perfectly still not really knowing what was going on since he had missed the part about returning his glasses. His breathing was easy and he waited the suspense started to kill him. However he felt a slight feeling that she was getting closer. He didn't move though he could feel a deep blush forming on his face.
He closed his eyes quickly. He didn't want to move so it was the best option. He took easy breaths to calm himself down. He silently wondered what was going to happen or how obviously ridiculous he must look with a blush on his face when nothing was happening.
(no.. i apologize for lack of muse and horrible lateness)

❚ WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED HER DAY WOULD TURN
out like this? Although she wasn't particularly bored, Haruka hadn't really been expecting something of the sort would happen. To her of all people. This whole situation seemed more like something from an anime show, not something that was just happening to a real person. Yet here she was, standing on the hedge of a fountain holding a pair of glasses who belonged to someone who had, apparently, fallen inside said fountain.
Had it been any other person, Akihiro would have probably ended up being laughed at, but considering the way Haruka viewed those around her, there was no way that could happen anytime soon. More than finding the situation amusing, she found it to be confusing. She had no motive to be mean or rude to this person. If anything, the female was curious. And confused, definitely confused. Why would someone who was clumsy need to apologize a lot? Sure, clumsy people were more prone to accidents (as she could tell from the male standing across from her) but it was just how they were... sure if something really bad happened, but Haruka really saw no need to be constantly apologizing for being clumsy. It was like apologizing for being talkative...
The female was pulled out of her thoughts as Akihiro spoke again, and she smiled as she noticed he was now calling her by her first name. It was much better that way, and the female nodded in approval. Now, for the tricky part. Don't get her wrong, Haruka wasn't really clumsy, nor had the habit of tripping over her own feet, but she wasn't exactly a graceful swan. All in all, she was normal. And normal people tend to be affected by gravity, especially if they're standing on the ledge of a fountain and leaning in. If the boy were to move she would definitely loose her balance and fall in as well.
Of course Haruka had thought it would be easier if she just told him to step forward and help him out of the water first, but she had also though that if it was already hard for him to even see her hand, trying to get him out before returning him his glasses would probably end up being worse. However, she hadn't been expecting for him to do what she had told him. Well, at least not in such a... serious way. Was he afraid she might hurt him? And most importantly, why on earth was he blushing?
In one swift motion, Haruka placed the glasses in their rightful position. "There. All set." she said with a small smile.
((and here we have it... my super lame post. it was supposed to be a celebration for surviving last week, but my muse was uncooperative. feel free to drag Haruka to the water as a punishment xD))
