------------------------------------------------------------------- MONA LISA, YOU'RE GUARANTEED TO RUN THIS TOWN WOAH, MONA LISA, I'D PAY TO SEE YOU FROWN -------------------------------------------------------------------
For anyone who knew Hikaru, they would know that he would rarely be seen anywhere without his twin, they would know that wherever Karou is, Hikaru would quickly be spotted nearby, or if Karou was talking to someone, Hikaru would be standing next to him, one arm slung over his shoulder and completing his twin's train of thought without consciously realizing it.
However, today, Karou seemed to be having trouble in math (again), and seeing that his twin was in class trying to convince the teacher to give him a boost for the last math test he had failed, there was no reason for him to be standing in the doorway waiting for him. Sure, they were close, but it wasn't like they were dependent on each other- they just have a close bond, they trusted each other more then the people around them (give or take a few people). Plus, it's hard to give off the impression of brotherly love, when his lover isn't with him. But until then, he needed something to do, knowing fully well that he does have a habit of getting bored rather easily, and becoming destructive and troublesome fairly quickly (though, it's not that big of a problem, he's always a handful). Normally, he would have just went to the music room himself, but at this time, the only one in there was maybe Kyouya, and he was always occupied with writing suspicious things in that black bound book of his.
So, he had started off the first new hours, talking to some weak-minded females, giggling loudly at his words and moving closer to him, all ears on what he had to say and talk about. But his mind was somewhere else (mainly his twin), and he couldn't really concentrate on them long enough, despite their apparently beauty and obscene wealth. And before he could really think twice, he found himself bored, finding an excuse to part ways with them, along with a promise that he would be in the music room later that afternoon if they had ever wanted him to be in their company again.
Which leads him to his current predicament- leaning against a tree that surrounded the maze. His golden gaze scanned the empty sky with disinterest. With one leg propped up against the rough bark behind him, he crossed his arms across his chest lightly, now kind of regretting separating from the two girls earlier. Two black cords ran down in front of his blazer, starting from his both his ears and connecting into one, spiraling down into his pocket- where his music player was residing, the song that minimal volume.
He turned his gaze from the sky to a group of girls as they headed to the entrance of the maze, giggling to themselves. He scowled inwardly. Where was Karou now? Shouldn't he be done by now?

Today wasn't anything special or out of the ordinary. Throughout the school hours, Keltie kept to her school work and jotting down notes whenever her teachers would start speaking. Unlike her best friend Azure, who would space out during lectures or occupy herself by day dreaming about the Host Club cuties, Keltie wanted to focus on getting her work done on time and acing her classes. Grades were more important than flirting or socializing with people that she probably wouldn't see after graduating. All that she needed to make herself content was her best friend, her family, and doing well in school. Azure often made fun of her friend because of her boring social life. Even though the two were close, they still had very different interests and opposite ideas of what was important in life.
Ever since she was a little girl, Keltie never found anyone who saw things the way she did. There were times when she would wonder if maybe she was wrong and rather than being by herself studying, she should be out with other young ladies at tea parties, discussing the latest gossip. When Keltie thought about being more involved in such activities, she found herself bored and very unamused. Maybe there really was something wrong with her... but didn't the strangest people make the biggest impact? Once her history class finished, Keltie was snapped out of her worries and evaluations on her life. Students were already packed and going out there door. "Keltie, were you spacing out during study period? That's so unlike you!" Azure giggled, who stood beside Keltie's desk. She already had her bag packed but waited for her friend to pack up too. "Oh... I-I didn't get much sleep last night." Keltie lied with a solemn gaze, slowly putting all of her notes inside of her folders. Though they were friends since elementary school, she didn't feel obliged to open up to Azure. They were too different and she knew that her best friend would not understand her deepest concerns.
"You're so slow! I'll meet you in the courtyard, okay?" An impatient Azure left after only a couple minutes of Keltie trying to get her work properly inside her backpack. Must have zoned out longer than she thought. When Keltie did enter the courtyard she didn't see Azure anywhere. Her large, brown eyes glanced around and searched for minutes but still no Azure popped into eye view. Why was it that her only friend was so scattered that she was always nowhere to be found, especially when Keltie needed her? All she could assume was that the girl was off chasing some boys around. While there was free time, Keltie went to the Rose bush maze to find a quiet place to study. 'I know she has a good reason to not show up. I'll just study for the finals.' She told herself but among a group of giggling girls was Azure. They were talking about something and were rather giddy... but Keltie knew why. There was a Hitachiin twin laying in the shade of a tree nearby.
'Oh... of course. Azure always likes talking about the Hosts. I don't know much about them.... she must think I'm boring to those other girls, who visit the Host club whenever they can.' Keltie's gaze saddened, her feelings being hurt that instead of spending time with her, Azure went off with her other friends. This was starting to happen more and more. Ever since High school to be precise. She tried not to let it bug her and ignored the group, walking past them without having any of the girls look at her. Keltie found that she was good at making herself ignored. Right as she passed by the shaded tree, her book bag's strap was loose enough to finally snap open, making her books and folders collapse upon the soft grass. "Ah! No... I spent fifteen minutes getting everything organized." Keltie groaned and got down onto her knees. Why did her bag decide to unsnap now? She was already upset that her friend was moving on... but now she had to reorganize everything? Come on!

Hikaru, well aware that the group now has their attention directed at him. Out of the corner of his amber gaze, he could see them occasionally glance at him, smile, whisper behind their hands and giggle once more. However, instead of going over there (because that was how he roll), he stayed where he was. Why? Mostly because he was wondering if eventually one of them would push the other ahead to approach him, seeing if he was up for a conversation or would give them the cold shoulder; much like he did all throughout middle school. Why not? If anyone came up to him, he would have replied- though maybe he wouldn't be as charming and attentive as he should be, like when he's with his twin, but at least it was something, right? The past was the past, he was, as Tamaki had once told him not long ago- different, still unique in his own way (and yet he couldn't tell them apart).
Leaning his head back, his head rested against the tree, his lidded gaze still fixed on the sky. A faraway look glazed his features, as if he was deep in thought about something. He could still see the group out of the corner of his eyes, followed by a lone flash of yellow streaking his vision. Had he actually paid attention and looked to see who it was, he would have noticed the condition that the strap of her bag was in as of the moment. But since he didn't, all he heard as the sight disappeared was a muffled thump as books cascaded from the bag to the emerald blades of grass; followed by quite mumbling.
With a hum of curiosity, his golden orbs lowered to the figure right in front of him, bending down to pick up what he assumed was her things that was scattered about. He looked at the group, who was now silent before he sighed, pulling off the headphones and pushing himself off the tree, picking up a notebook that was the closest to him, along with a few things that was in the way as he ambled over to her.
Normally, he would have chuckled and continued on whatever he was doing. But as a general rule of a host club, it was clear that he had to be the gentlemen and help a damsel if she's in distress. And that's what she was doing. It was that notion that made him bend over to pick up a stray pen as he stacked the books in his arms, followed by moving to crouch in front of her, a small, friendly smile on his face. 'What is this? You seemed distressed,' he observed lightly, slightly miffed. It was true, she seemed a little sad, after all, she could just buy a new bag. 'Is everything well, beautiful?'
he arched a brow, hoping that she wouldn't arbitrarily burst into tears and tell him a life story. [/blockquote] -------------------------------------------------------------------

Trying to grab her papers before a wind would blow them away, Keltie snatched at as many of them as possible in determination. What would make matters worse was if the wind blew them right up in the air, making them disappear into the large maze. She could only imagine how much of a pain it would be to go hunting for at least twelve different pages of notes and work in a maze that she hadn't even bothered going through before. A shadow cast over her as a young man approached but being so distracted, Keltie didn't even notice. 'I should have seen this happening. Taizo warned me this bag was far too old. Would tape hold the strap together throughout the rest of the day? That would look very cheap, though... ' She thought as she quickly put a few of her papers inside their proper pouches in her folders. However, due to the girl being a perfectionist, Keltie spent more time on adjusting things neatly than a usual person would. Suddenly, a voice began talking to her. Keltie's eyes widened and once she looked up, she finally realized that the Hitachiin was right in front of her. " E-Eep!!" A squeak came from her, though not on purpose. This was her usual reaction to someone who suddenly showed up before her. Her older brother, Taizo, would make fun of her surprised squeaks for they sounded equivalent to the cheeping of a baby chick. Cheep cheep! Poor Keltie couldn't hide the shock in her face and what followed her squeaking as her tipping onto her back, feeling the soft grass beneath her. Most students knew that Keltie wasn't among the strongest girls and was easily frightened. The Hitachiin twin wasn't at all scary to her, she just wasn't expecting someone to actually notice her klutziness and come over. If there was something Keltie new about the Hitachiin twins, it was that they were nearly inseparable. In middle school she noticed that they would ignore other students and stay in their own world where no strangers could disturb them. Ever since the Host club started, the twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, were more social. Keltie sometimes wondered if this had anything to do with the transfer student Tamaki but as always, Keltie didn't ask and kept to her own business. Embarrassed of her little performance, she sat back up and nervously grabbed a book before shoving it inside her bag. The boy might have noticed her cheeks blushing but Keltie tried hiding her face behind her bangs. " S-sorry... I didn't see you." Keltie apologized but had a horrible gut feeling that the boy thought she was a dork. " My brother warned me that I should get a new bag. Y-You don't have to help me, I'm fine gathering my belongings by myself." She politely told him with a small bow of her head. Instead of burdening him, Keltie wanted him to only help her if he truly wanted to. With the group of girls staring at the two like a group of vultures, it wouldn't have looked good for him to be helping poor, meek Keltie. [/blockquote]

Hikaru raised a brow- so she didn't arbitrarily burst into tears, but he was sure that he didn't skulk across the grass ground, so she should have seen her coming. Most likely she seemed busy trying to gather her things before it went off and fluttered away into the wind. Still, watching her, he noted that that her reaction was exactly like those movies were the girl was picking up her things to run, and had suddenly encountered the dark, looming figure that would murder her and leave her remains in the woods... or so it seemed in all the horror movies that he had watched with Karou. He's been told he'd watched one too many of those when he's bored.
Setting the book and papers that he had picked up on the ground in front of her lightly, he set the pens on top of it- using it as a weight to keep it down, saving her any feelings of embarrassment by not commenting on her little reaction episode. Though, he had to admit- it was a little cute, she was small, and though she sounded like the innocent type when she squeaked at his presence. It seemed she was just surprised, not scared or something (though he could have proved otherwise).
Hearing her apology, he looked up at her with a sharp, golden gaze. 'It's alright,' he waved it off as he absently stood up and chased a few stray papers as they flew away, piling them up in his hands before moving back to her, handing it to her with a light shrug. What's with this girl? Couldn't she just say thanks and accept the offer? He was just trying to do a little good deed for the day, since he couldn't fathom something like that happening to him. Then again, as soon as something showed signs of wear and tear, he often dumped it and got a new one.
'It's fine, really, I don't mind helping,' he assured her, his friendly, calm voice revealing nothing but.. well.. friendliness. 'You should get a new bag though,' he agreed dryly. Of course she should, did she not see the bag's condition? She's probably had it everyday for several months now; obviously, the bag has seen better days, and it just recently met it's end. Instead of saying that, he fixed the books and arranged the paper before sticking it under the cover of the textbook to keep protected from the wind.
'Where are you going? I can help you carry you books, you seem to have quite a bit on you,' he offered her with another even smile and tilt of his head. He was, somewhere in the back of his mind, aware of the girls watching their interaction, but ignored it. She couldn't possibly carry those by herself, and even if she could, he's can't just let her- that's.. not a chivalry act. He may be a devil, but he's not that bad (is he?).

Even with Keltie refusing his help, the young man still offered it. His voice sounded very friendly instead of mocking, teasing, or disappointment. Perhaps she didn't come off as dorky as she thought she did...? Daring herself to look up, her hand brushed her bangs behind her ears, allowing her eyes to curiously take a look up at him. 'This is the first time I interacted with one of the twins. He's nicer than I remember.' She thought in slight confusion. Though she did notice their happiness around the other Hosts, there was some doubt she had that they were only putting on a show. So far he seemed genuinely nice, though, but Keltie didn't allow herself to be swooned by it. Because of her lacking any experience of romance, she was somewhat immune to anyone flirting or getting ideas from just a simple kind gesture.
Having several pairs of eyes staring at her and the young man made Keltie feel as though she were on the spot, like a performance for several fan girls to watch. 'Oh no, Azure's watching me! She'd be upset with me if I acted too friendly but I can't be rude, either. Why did she have to go here out of all places?' Nervous thoughts filled her mind but only because of her knowing if Azure got the wrong idea, it would be weeks of dirty glances and smug comments. Keltie's friend had a... habit of over-reacting. Standing up with her belongings that she managed to collect, Keltie shyly looked down and turned her back towards her audience. "I have an hour long break... and was looking for a place to study." She responded slowly, carefully wording everything.
"Y-You can help me take everything to that beach over there." Keltie blurted after a small pause of trying to figure out where to go. When coming to this location, she really didn't have anything in mind and was mostly moping about being ditched again. Why was it that her mind was never truly cleared? There was always something to think about, no matter what. "Thank you, for your help." She quietly said with a polite bow of her head before heading towards a bench right beside one of the lush, perfectly trimmed rose bushes.
One of Keltie's favorite aspects of Ouran was how well they took care of the campus. Not a single rose was dead and there weren't ever pieces of garbage laying about. There were several places in Japan that weren't nearly as clean and based upon the places she visited during her lifetime, Ouran Academy was one of the cleanest. There was a high reputation to live up to and Ouran never failed. Even her goofy brother Taizo admitted once that the building had a glimmer of elegance to the exterior.

Hikaru, after a pensive moment watching the girl, realize just how much of a wallflower she was. Normally, even if her preference lies in Mori or Tamaki, they all were usually greeted out a frenzy of blushes, giddy smiles, and cheers in a breathless tone. But she had not only tripped back in surprise, she turned down his offer for help, and had that hard line on her shoulders, much like how everyone has when they feel like they are being watched. Was it merely because they were openly staring in a rather tense manner, or perhaps something more personal; like an actual friend was watching with jaded green eyes? Both provided the 'dubious doppelganger' an idea that could just give him something to do for a moment or two- at least until he met up with his twin again.
At the thought, he glanced at the building where he was sure his twin was, his brows creased together in a slight frown before turning back to the girl, his expression smoothed out into the usual, semi-friendly, a little bored look. It was fine, he would have known if something has happened to his sibling, it was a twin thing; a deep connection that allowed them to share feelings- he could just look at his brother and know that something is wrong, even if he had never said it- it's just the air that he gave off.
Running his fingers through his hair, he brushed his bangs to the side before leaning forward and picking up most of the books, leaving one or two for her to hold, his hands subtly (not really) brushed her hand before he stood up, extending an arm out to help her to her feet before pulling her closer to him, angling his body so the girls could see them. 'An hour? And you're planning to study? Will I at least be able to see you at the Host Club a little later?' he inquired, his tone smooth, low and a little sultry.
There! A little something he could do to encourage a little more girls to request him as a host. Generally, most of them would have already had a preference, and would stick with it- but there's always the few that didn't.
Shifting her books, he eased it to the side before letting go of her, walking her over to where the benches where, keeping close to her side; close enough to make it look intentional, but far enough so she wouldn't get rather peeved that he was intruding in her space. As he passed the rose bushes, he noted that of all the benches that she could have chosen, it was the one next to the flowers. Did she have a reason for that? Was it just because the view was nice, or was it that she liked flowers?
Stopping, he gently set the books down, one hand reaching out to cup the flowers lightly. 'Do you have a preference on your favorite flower?' he questioned, his golden gaze turning to her absently- remember when he was a child and often arranged flowers in hopes of impressing the witch they had be related to. The woman's work, somehow, always ends up on her head. Showoff.

Keltie noticed his glance towards one of the school buildings and wondered if the other twin was inside. Having only one sitting by himself was a very odd, rare sight. Siblings always argued about something at one point... Keltie guessed that they were having a rough patch, or one of them had to stay in after class. She didn't need to know what was going on between the two since after all, she wasn't close to them nor did she want to stick her nose in the business of others that didn't involve her. Still, she couldn't help but to sense that he was somewhat worried or anxious for when his brother would return. Keltie was snapped out of her thoughts right when she was pulled up close to him, making her face extremely warm. A loud sound of multiple squeals arose from the group and she was positive that once the young man left, she would be meat thrown out to a pack of angry dogs.
"I-I never considered visiting the Host club..." Keltie stammered, not being able to look him in the eye. Never had she been this close to a guy (physically, anyway). Were hosts usually like this? Was this guy flirting with her? She sat down on one of the benches, placing her bag full of items on her lap, and folded her hands. This was surprisingly uncomfortable.... Keltie never had anyone treat her this way, or had so much attention focused on her at once. It was almost like this was a game, or a way of drawing more attention to the Host. Wait, was this what it was all about? Was he using her for a form of advertisement?
Keltie shook the theory out of her mind since that was a rude assumption to begin with. He was only trying to be considerate, right? "I'm not picky when it comes to flowers... roses are beautiful, especially the blue and red ones. The red ones are believed to resemble deep love, the yellow for friendship, and white for purity. As for blue... I don't know what they represent. They're more misunderstood I guess. Maybe, they represent a deep emotion that can't be described.." She explained with a calmer expression as she gazed at the bush closest to them. Her mother loved flowers and had books on them but her absolute favorite was roses. They had many bushes in their main mansion's front yard, all red of course.
Keltie also liked carnations but her mind was focused more so on the rose bushes and trying to look away from a group of young girls that decided to follow them. To make it 'less obvious', they hid around one of the bushes. How clever. "I-I mean, not that roses actually have... feelings, b-but people can say a lot through what flowers they give to their friends and family..." Keltie added nervously, not wanting him to think she was crazy.

------------------------------------------------------------------- MONA LISA, YOU'RE GUARANTEED TO RUN THIS TOWN WOAH, MONA LISA, I'D PAY TO SEE YOU FROWN -------------------------------------------------------------------
Hikaru, eyed her through half closed lids, his orbs smoldering. He reached one hand up to gently rest under her jawline, tilting her chin so that she would meet his eyes. His lips were curled into an amused smile at the sounds the girls not far off were making- their eyes like a hawk on his every move. She was such a dork, skittish and clearly isn't the type to go the host club that much- but you never know, he's been told 'it's always the quite ones' and frankly, it was true. 'You should come one day then, and visit me,' he murmured, dropping his voice lower at the last bit, as if he was trying not the let anyone overhear what he was telling her- as if it was classified information. 'Just ask for 'Hikaru Hitachiin' or the 'Hitachiin Twins', and I'm yours,' he added cheekily, the words taking on another meaning by itself. Well, for an hour or so.
When she moved to sit down, he remained standing, one hand casually tucked into his pocket. She seemed uncomfortable. But that wasn't his problem. What was his problem? It was that she didn't talk as much, and it was starting to be a bore to him, had she at least flirted back, made a smart comment, or even squealed loudly, at least something was happening. Honestly, it was like trying to talk to that new kid in his class- the shabby, poor one on the scholarship, not the weird one who looked out the window all the time. But, again, even with her presence, the thought of Karou still wouldn't quench to ease up his mind.
Pulling the rose that was in his hand forward, he lifted it out of the bush, plucking it right out from the nest of leaves that it was snugly settled in. Holding the stem stack between his fingers, he inspected the bloom for a moment pensively. It was true, mostly colors were important to some people when it comes to flower arranging- it would be, generally, considered wrong to give a friend a bouquet of red roses unless it was a joke. And white roses were often thrown into graves because they were symbolic to reverence, sympathy and spirituality.
But 'I know,' was all he said on the matter as he turned to look at her with a smile, covered thinly over a grin of devious intentions- or also known as the same smile he wears on his face every day of the week. 'The host club usually has a flower viewing theme in the spring as the blossoms are in bloom- perhaps you would attend that?' he offered, handing her the flower with a slow, somewhat exaggerated bow.
