::Kaname Kanzaki::
Type: Original Age: Seventeen Gender: Female Sexuality: Heterosexual Crushes: As of the moment, it isn’t something she’s considered Face Claim: Shiori Takatsuki – Revolutionary Girl Utena
Appearance:
Tyrian shades of brilliant purple reach the length of the base of her neck in not exactly full-blown curls, but more in small waves, twirling inward at their ends. A healthy shine envelops her imperial locks and regardless of what she may be up to, be it gym exercises like swimming or track or even just simply a night on the town, it’s typically worn out as oppose to in a neat little bun or nice ponytail and she really quite prefers it that way.
The hues of royal purple shown in her round, delicate eyes, besides her lovely hair are easily the most distinguishable feature in her face. They have the unfortunate tendency of betraying her as far as emotions go, telling all her little secrets in the briefest of manners and ways, and are quite simply the only indication that she isn’t as well put-together as she likes others to believe she is. This wouldn’t be so big an issue if she were just some boring ol anyone with any kind of boring ol wish, but given her dreams of one day gracing the screens as a real-life actress in the near enough future, this is a bit of a problem that needs fixing.
Possessing a very small, but very pointed nose and tiny, precious lips that never really seem to curve in any real direction or give the slightest hint of a smile when she believes she’s safely out of the eye of the public, and in that time are instead presented as very straight-lined, disappointed things that are only capable of distressing any possibly wandering eyes and nothing else. But then, even her smiles are more than a little unnerving – it’s not that she’s forcing them too hard, it’s just they seem unnatural for her, personally. But she’s found it’s easier to convince people with a fake smile as oppose to simply stating you’re absolutely fine in a way that gives no indication of it at all really.
From her little lips we angle down to her chin, which, while not as prominent as her nose, is still slightly pointed and quite small for that matter and her pierced ears are almost always covered by her mass of purple hair, so they’re rarely if ever seen by the public. The frame of her face gives the impression of being somewhat long and triangular with a forehead of average size. Eyebrows and eyelashes are also of exceptionally average length.
Her standing height is at five feet six inches with a weight of one twenty and in its entirety, her frame appears rather delicate, but she’s naturally elegant in her gait and apparently a cute enough girl to get attention from the opposite gender enough times to be a little sick of it. Daily school-wear of course consists of the unfortunate girls' uniform with all the usual necessities, though her hair is thankfully free of any accessories in that time. When she’s not on school grounds, her wear is surprisingly less extravagant, though still incredibly feminine – simply put, she isn’t forgoing the skirts and heels, just wearing them in simpler forms.
Personality:
She’s uncertain about her future, uncertain about her present even, and seems to sort of just apathetically sway in the motions of what she considers uneventful, unremarkable days more than anything. She harbors a deep, unrelenting hatred for a man who more than likely considers the girl as his own flesh and blood that spans well over eight years and doesn’t appear to be disappearing any time soon. She has virtually no sense of self-preservation, but pretends to for the sake of others and though it isn’t so bad that she’s on the verge of being suicidal, she is severely lacking in acknowledging her limitations and has a habit of pushing herself far too hard. She has no real confidence in her abilities despite people telling her that she is in fact a talented girl, she feels uncomfortable in her own skin, and out of place in the world she never truly wanted to be apart of, but has the great misfortune of now living in regardless. To say it simply, Kaname’s in a bit of an emotional depression. But none of this is ever something she intends for anyone to catch on to, nor is it ever anything people seem to care very much about, at least not at school. And her parents appear to have an inkling that not everything is as okay as she likes to make them think, but hardly ever seem to have the time to discuss much at all what with all their running from here to there.
She keeps up appearances for the sake of keeping people as far out of her head as humanly possible and the way she sees it, every little motion she makes that’s in fact opposite of what she wants to do or word she says that’s actually not what she wants to say at all, is more than perfect practice for what she wants to do later in her life – after all, no actress would be good at what they do if they weren’t capable of deceiving those nearest, right? In spite of all her attempts to deceive, however, she is incapable of seeming genuinely interested in matters that concerns others, at least socially speaking. For instance, big school events aren’t really her thing as she has a preference for much smaller crowds than they have a tendency to attract, and she couldn’t begin to understand the fascination with them; the people she chooses to hang around would be able to pick up on this disinterest and may prefer not to invite her because of it.
She is a naturally sharp, intelligent girl and strives to maintain fairly good grades to please the ones who bothered enrolling her in school to begin with, though she’s still rather certain that she’d be more than capable of surviving without much of an education as after all, she did so for years prior to meeting her parents. But that’s beside the point. The point is she does well enough with her work not to cause any problems for anyone. She also happens to be a bit on the snarky side as well and has enough of a sense of humor that she’s capable of laughing at herself when things go tumbling in the wrong direction, which is easily one of her more redeeming qualities. She possesses a natural sense of curiosity as well, one capable of putting her into situations she would have maybe been better off not getting involved in, but never seems to really regret being a part of. It’s possible a piece of her actually yearns to make genuine connections with people, though given all the effort she puts into faking and tip-toeing her way around the people she passes in everyday life, this would seem sort of strange to hear. Still, from time to time, she entertains the idea of possibly making a true friend at some point in her life.
She’s claustrophobic to the biggest degree possible because of Nene’s insistence of locking her in a teeny, tiny closet when she did something wrong as a kid, and has a great dislike of mustard, peppers, and celery with peanut butter, but save for bananas, is quite fond of fruits as well as gelatins.
History:
Initially, Kaname was not a young woman of wealth and great social standing. In fact, many would say that initially, Kaname wasn’t much of anything at all. A street urchin who made her way in the world surviving on cardboard boxes and the discarded remnants of those much better off than herself was for the longest time the only life she had known. It was difficult to say why this was, since, as far as she knew, she had a mother… probably. At some point anyway she was sure, but as was apparent from her lack of presence, the woman had up and abandoned her presumably at a stage in her life too early to remember completely. But she had gotten used to not having anyone; that wasn’t to say she didn’t want it to be different – after all, no one spent time peeking through the glass of doors and windows and wishing to be welcomed into the warm, comforting arms of someone, anyone really, who would love her if that weren’t the case. However, she was hardly spared a passing glance, she wasn’t worth it, it seemed, well except to be shooed away when she was caught with her grubby, filthy hands dirtying up the gorgeous, stained glass. And after awhile, she just stopped hoping.
It wouldn’t be until she reached nine that she happened across a bit of luck in the form of a stranger. She was older, much older in fact, and a little on the shady end of things, but she at least had something of a home and food on the table and she was willing to take Kaname in. That was really all she cared about in the end. So, for some time, Kaname and Nene (the older woman) were together and grew into a bit of a makeshift family. Things were never really spectacular, being poor and everything you didn’t get to live as nicely as you may have wished and Nene herself could be somewhat demanding, but it was better than anything Kaname had previously had and she was willing to do whatever it took to keep the woman happy.
Now, the woman’s work wasn’t what you’d call exactly legal… or even a little bit legal, for that matter. Stealing things from well-respected establishments in the middle of the night to sell and conning men out of their money in games that were hardly worth the gamble was not the kind of life for a child, certainly, but it was what Kaname was exposed to and once things started going badly, Nene grew less accommodating and a deal more frightful. She was more insulting and resorted to occasional punishments and physical violence and while nothing she did physically was especially damaging as she was just an old woman, it still wasn’t acceptable. Eventually she got caught in the act of beating the child and that, coupled with everything else, got her sent off to jail. And despite everything she went through for those brief couple of months, Kaname still very much considered Nene her family and couldn’t stand the idea of being apart from her for even a second, desperately fighting against the police to reach her as she got taken away.
Following this, she got sent to an orphanage and to say she wasn’t the most popular child of choice would be something of an understatement. It wasn’t that she wasn’t a cute child, she just didn’t show much interest in anything aside from herself, usually demonstrating very reserved, cold tendencies that put people off from the idea of making her their own. It was every bit intentional however as she didn’t want anyone else but Nene. She felt that, however foolishly, that Nene would eventually come for her when she got out since she was fairly certain the woman knew where she was staying and wanted her back as much as she. Soon she was forced to accept the truth and shortly following, came to be adopted, but not just by anyone. The man responsible for reporting, arresting, and subsequently taking away the only family she had known, Ren Kanzaki, had turned up at the orphanage following the discovery that he and his wife, Urumi were unable to conceive. Having remembered the girl and knowing that she could use a better home, Ren decided with his wife to take her in and raise her as their own despite how much Kaname fought against the very idea. To this day she still harbors a deep hatred for her new father.
For eight years the pair shaped her into the spitting image of a young woman of high society, and for all appearances’ sake, she did in fact blend in rather well with the people of her new life. She’s an accomplished instrumentalist, capable of playing complicated piano and violin pieces as though they were mere child’s play and has even had the privilege of being in several solo performances locally. However, she much prefers the strings of a violin to the keys of a piano. Because of her mother’s work as a world-class playwright, she’s versed in the world of acting and all it encompasses, aspiring to become a real actress in her future life. Her mother is actually responsible for funding and putting on a number of local school productions, including ones at Lobelia Girls’ Academy which is where Kaname was placed prior to Ouran. Fencing has been a longtime passion of hers as well.
The head of the house is obviously an officer of the law, a chief to be more specific, and the one person in the world that Kaname cannot stand to be around, but always plays the role of dutiful daughter in the presence of company. He is also the one who suggested she attend Lobelia’s (at his wife’s urging) and this is in actuality the reason she requested for a change in schools during middle school, though at the time she claimed she simply grew bored of the place. Safe to say, save for the inclusion of males, Ouran isn’t much different from Lobelia and the girls’ uniform for high school at least is quite… showy for her tastes, but she has every intention of sticking it through to the end.

The displeasure she felt in the pit of her stomach was not something viewed by her surrounding company. Oh, no, Kaname Kanzaki had far too much talent with deceiving her peers to allow them to see such a thing. Apparently, the group of girls she usually chose to hang around had come to a decision regarding the young woman’s single status. And no, she would never in her life allow herself to call them her friends; friends wouldn’t go behind her back in such a way, at least not friends she wanted to keep around for very long. At any rate, the girls had decided to send her on a date with someone she herself had never met or seen before, though evidently he had been an attendant of their prestigious academy for quite some time. Either way, he was a total stranger to her and given each of their respective responses, no one she had asked knew anything about him aside from the fact that he was 'so hot.' They were too wrapped up in the little superficialities of their world to ever think that, perhaps, she rather preferred being single and on her own. And she very much did, thank you. It was a treat to be allowed to spend time with one’s self at the end of the day when they were surrounded with such inconsiderate people on an hourly basis – being forced to endure a foolish boy was just cruel and entirely unnecessary by her views.
Just the same, Kanzaki allowed a smile to grace her lips as the young women droned on and on about the amazingly attractive male who was, as far as she could tell from their snippets of dialogue that she tuned in and out of as the conversation progressed, a member of a sports team? Well wait, now which one had they mentioned? Swimming perhaps? She couldn’t recall offhand how many males were actually on the school’s swim team, but as she traveled through the brief list of them, she realized she couldn’t picture the one the girls were speaking of. So then she moved on to a different sport entirely and while it wasn’t as though she actually kept detailed records of who did what, she assumed, perhaps wrongly, that she’d be able to pick out someone who matched what she was hearing in this instant. You can imagine her growing disappointment when she discovered that no, it didn’t matter what she thought of, the boy she needed to remember just wasn’t in her memories.
Settling on this fact was difficult for her to manage, especially since the more she overheard, the more she wanted to know just who it was she was supposed to be meeting a week from today at seven at night in a cozy little restaurant up the street. Or something to that effect anyhow. Still, she kept up that ever-present smile of hers and just nodded in agreement when she was finally allowed to speak. "Sure, I think I’ll enjoy it quite a bit myself. I can’t wait."
