:: Hanako Miyagi ::
Type: Original Age: Sixteen Gender: Female Sexuality: Heterosexual Crushes: None Face Claim: Hitagi Senjogahara - Bakemonogatari
Appearance:
Hanako stands at 5"3', weighs a healthy 124 lbs, and is of a rather petite yet athletic build. She practices Pilates twice a week and jogs around her house's compound every evening to keep the latter part of her physique in tact. Hana is, if you seek a label, pretty. Not unattractive, yet not gorgeous either. Her jet black hair is dyed a dark orchid color, reaches down to her waist, complimented by the deep blue that is her eyes. She has a slender figure, though she lacks several curves and bumps in places where she's supposed to have them. Her skin is of an ivory, peach tone, often delicate and sometimes seemingly translucent in bright light. Her face contains soft features that would most likely age well, though her wide eyes often make her seem naive and innocent, not the aloof and timid character she really is.
She's not going to lie —she's worked since her first year in middle school to try and maintain a personal style that was unique. There are two very distinctive dress-styles: the first would be her mix of tomboy and girly girl. She likes sporting sundresses, skirts and cute outfits, but she'll refuse to wear anything but sports shoes with this getup. Her alternate choice of dress would be a little more casual: loose hoodies, comfortable sweaters, pastel colored blouses, slim-fitting jeans, cargo pants or shorts five inches higher than her knee. Hanako doesn't enjoy wearing Ouran's uniform, and prefers to rebelliously wear sneakers underneath the yellow frock. Her hair is often tied into a loose ponytail or bun, preferably with a vibrantly colored scrunchie or a thick ribbon.
Personality:It is very hard to sum up the entire personality of Hanako Miyagi, one of Ouran's longest-attending students, in just a few words. She is a complex girl that, like good wine, ages tastefully and gains a richer, fuller flavor every year she grows. At first glance, Hana is cold and frigid, with few words and little praise. She's quiet, keeps to herself and barely speaks with people her own age. She attends Ouran Academy's social gatherings and festivals, and is considered a likable guest since she is polite and clever, but Hanako has very few actual friends. Her acquaintances may sometimes mistakenly refer to her as their friend, but as Hana sees it, she has very few actual companions. To her sincere friends, Hanako is almost disturbingly loyal. She will defend them to the ends of the Earth, and would probably help them hide all manner of crime. They aren't just her friends, they form an integral part of her worldview and she relies on them extensively. Of course, being a bit of an ice queen, Hanako would never say any of this out loud. In fact, to those who have just met her she comes across as cynical, although with an entertaining dry humor.
Although Hanako acts like she doesn't care what you think of her, she is aware of the gossip. Almost everything said through the grapevine about her is a lie though. Despite the fact that everyone seems to know her, no one really knows her. The Miyagi name was made for her, she was nothing but the child of the highly-esteemed Katsuhara Miyagi. She wasn't Hanako Miyagi, she was Katsuhara Miyagi's daughter. This is one of the few reasons she dislikes making new friends —she never knows whether they're just in it for the name, or if they actually like her. Perhaps that was the life of the rich and famous, but it wasn't as if that was something she was willing to accept. Around her father's business partners or people who are big in the industry, Hana is forced to be polite. Even when her parents are not close by to scrutinize her behavior, she's nice to the people her father asked her to be nice to, because she both respects and fears him and couldn't imagine going against his orders.
Hanako is a very intelligent girl, having excelled at both elementary and middle school. Her greatest interest is literature and foreign languages. She reads —quite a lot, in fact— works from many famous authors, her favorites neatly aligned by height and then by alphabet on a shelf in her bedroom. Hana also speaks several different languages. Every summer, she would be sent to a different country to learn more about different cultures. She started with Latin, and that basis made it somewhat easier for her to master Spanish, French, and Italian. Portuguese followed soon after, and during a sojourn to the Western world, she learned to speak fluent English. German and Dutch were her souvenirs from Holland, and Russian and Serbian were added to her repertoire after her stay in central Europe. Along with that, of course, she speaks Japanese, as well as some Chinese dialects she learned simply for interest's sake. Other people collect stamps or action figures; Hana collects languages.
There are very few things Hanako does that doesn't involve books, but the most prominent on the list is the piano. Hana thoroughly enjoys playing the instrument, to go as far as to ask her father for her own music room in their home. She has volumes of scores and sheets and written notes in that room, as well as her own upright and grand piano. If ever Hanako grew stressed, her primary method of relaxation would be to play the instrument. She could continue for hours on end, facial expressions calm and serene, sometimes with even a hint of a smile. Building on her love for the piano, Hana often has her iPod and a set of headphones with her wherever she goes. In the device are tunes by Chopin, Mozart, Bach, Clementi, Stravinsky and so much more. It's a form of escape, her happy place, if you will. Just by playing the works of Beethoven or Battistelli, you can calm her down and on a few rare occasions, harvest a smile.
As a young woman, Hanako has had high ambitions, to the point of once wanting to be the most famous music composer in the world as well as the smartest linguist possible. Her failure to achieve even the most basic of those ambitions (such as being acknowledged by her father) is probably the biggest factor in her introverted personality. She is a girl consumed with the desire to win, and this is the reason for the bizarrely high standards she sets for herself. Anything less than perfect is a failure, and Hana works to her utmost limit trying to surpass her own expectations. History:Hanako was born daughter to Katsuhara and Chouko Miyagi, the superintendent of Miyagi Memorial Hospital(s) and the owner of a five-star bakery by the name of Cafe Purée, respectively. She was raised to be a poised and elegant woman, as most girls of her social status were meant to be. Her father was strict, constantly emphasizing on self-discipline and responsibility. Hana never spent much time with him, not even on holidays or birthdays, aside from the weekly family dinner every Saturday night, and even on those days she only spoke to him about her grades and if the school's facilities were to her liking. Her father was more like a stranger to her than family —she'd pass by him in the morning, bow a hello, then not hear from him again for the rest of the day save for the revving of his car engine when he returned home from work. Her mother was present more than her father, but not by much. Hanako never had much of a personal relationship between her two parents.
As if trying to make up for not being there for their daughter, Hana was constantly kept busy with all sorts of lessons. She had piano classes three times a week, private tuition sessions every day, and aerobics lessons on Saturdays. When she grew lonely, they bought her a golden retriever she promptly named Usagi, and a horse that she quickly deemed Bubbles. While her two animals were immensely treasured, they didn't give the same warmth that only human companionship could bestow. Even so, Hana never spoke much to other students. When she was enrolled into Ouran's elementary division, she remained quiet and sullen. Few spoke to her, and even fewer did so a second time. Hanako had never been good at communicating with people her own age, and never quite knew what was appropriate for a conversation topic. Over the years, her isolation from her peers caused her to grow introverted, quiet even, to the point of getting defensive every time someone tried to come close to her.
Not having many friends meant having a lot of free time on her hands. Ironically, while Hanako couldn't carry a decent tête-à-tête with anyone, her greatest interest was talking in different languages. Every summer, she and her mother would get to visit a country of their choice while Katsuhara went on a business-related trip. Hanako loved learning about different cultures, and adored the different sounds every mother tongue had. This, added to her skill with the piano, made her quite popular with some of her father's business partners. She would play and sing foreign songs for their entertainment every once in while when her father had them over for a luncheon or a banquet. Despite his absence in her life, Hanako held her father up on a pedestal and treated him with great respect and admiration. She sought his recognition more than the average teenager and did her best to please him. Regardless of all her efforts, he never gave her so much as an acknowledging nod.
Time passed, and even though she grew older, she didn't grow out of her need for her father's attention. It wasn't her main goal any longer, but that didn't mean she didn't try as hard as she used to. She worked to please those who held authority over her (such as her teachers, her parents, her tutors, etc.), often forsaking her own wants to do so. There was a short period of time, however, when she first entered Ouran's high school division, that she was captivated by a society that went by the name of the Host Club. While she knew her participation in such an activity would backtrack her progress with her father by a decade, she couldn't help her fascination. Hanako would never dream of stepping inside the third music room, but there wouldn't be any harm if she listened in on conversations regarding them.

Sample RP: Miss Miyagi, Your father called today. He says he's sorry, but that it's likely he won't be able to attend your birthday party tomorrow. Something has come up, but he wishes you a happy early birthday and hopes you will enjoy yourself.
Hanako rubbed the palm of her hand against her eyes as she stared at the letter that had materialized on her bedside table this morning, only slightly disappointed. It wasn't much of a surprise anymore that her father would be absent; it was, after all, an annual occurrence. Her father would plan her a huge birthday party, pay people to attend it, and then not show up. She didn't even know why she bothered to feel unhappy with this turnout anymore.
Quickly, she leaned over the side of her queen-sized bed and wrapped her fingers around the inter-house telephone that stood by her bedside, beside the digital alarm clock, a photo of herself and her mother, a lamp and a large magenta barrette. She clicked the numbers one and three, needing to wait only a few seconds before her call was picked up. A female voice sounded through the other line, greeting Hanako a fair morning. "Good morning, Chi-neesan. Please cancel the celebration tomorrow," the teen said into the phone, pinching the bridge of her nose. The servant replied her understanding, and Hana set down the phone. This was a yearly event, as well. She'd cancel her birthday party, pay even more to the guests to get them to say they came, and spend her birthday with her dog and her horse. It was better to have the presence of two who cared than the presence of two hundred who were there just for the money.
Presently, she flopped backwards and onto her pillows, wondering what she would do with Usagi and Bubbles this year round. Last year, she'd brought them to her family's private beach and spent the day there. The year before, she read stories to them in the house's huge courtyard, and the year before that she went for a stroll around the entire mansion. The only thing consistent in the ways she spent her birthday was the cake —a small one the chef prepared for her, butter with vanilla frosting and a strawberry to top. While most girls her age and status had extravagant dances or parties on the other side of the world, her own birthday was nothing but a day with her pets —just like any other day over the course of the year. The 26th of February didn't mean anything special to her, not anymore, at least.
As she was still in her pajamas, and as her bed was very warm and comfortable, she had to force herself to roll out from under the covers and trudge over to her closet to pull out something to wear for the day. A black, cotton blouse that reached to her hips seemed appealing, and along with a pair of medium gray tights, her attire was complete. Shoes weren't allowed inside bedrooms, as was the rule, but Hanako figured she'd wear knee-high apricot suede boots later on. The adolescent trudged across her room, heading over to her dressing table. She had gone to bed with her hair wet, so there was a bit of a curl to it. After a quick trip to the bathroom to dampen her locks, Hana straightened them to their regular stick-straight manner, pulling out a band from the dressing table's drawer. She held it in her mouth as she scooped her hair into her hands, then proceeded to tie her ponytail.
Soon enough, she was dressed and ready to go about her daily business, Saturday meant piano lessons, and piano lessons meant heading over to her music room in the east wing. Hanako made her way over to her door and down the hallway outside her bedroom. She paid a quick visit to the small room furthest down the aisle, where all her shoes were kept, and donned her boots of choice. Then began the walk over to the appropriate wing, interrupted every now and then by the 'good morning's and 'how are you's of the Miyagi servants. It wasn't long before she reached the grand door of the music room. Placing her slender hands against the handle, she pushed the door open to find her teacher already waiting for her. While Hana had already passed all the grades, her lessons were a way to keep her practicing —as if she didn't play enough already every night. "I'm sorry for being late," the young girl said with a small bow, sauntering over to the grand piano.
