::Kaoru Hitachiin::
Type: Canon Age: 16 Gender: Male Sexuality: Heterosexual Crushes: None Face Claim: ---
Appearance:
Kaoru, although indeed wealthy and handsome, has no distinguishing traits. He and his older identical twin brother, Hikaru, have this in common, which makes telling the two apart extremely difficult. This confused their parents for a while, so the mother had an idea: part their fringe in opposite directions. So Kaoru's peachy-brown hair flops to the right while his brother's is on the left. When he was younger, Kaoru's mother had dyed his hair blue, and because of this, he has become quite partial to the color. Whenever he feels like a new hairstyle is in order, he usually opts for re-dying his hair the striking electric color.
His cat-like eyes are large and gold, and many times, these may reflect in the dark and give an eerie glow which he uses to his advantage (usually while accompanied by Hikaru). The are rimmed by long, thick eyelashes and topped with perfectly manicured eyebrows--something that they have kept up with since their mother is a fashion designer.
Also because of this, Kaoru and his brother have a strong fashion sense that in reflected in the clothing they wear outside of school. His wardrobe consists of comfortable, but stylish clothes that either are identical or complementary to his brother's. During school, a periwinkle blazer is usually worn (or taken off after hours) and is worn with a purple-striped black tie and white dress shirt. Black dress pants accompany this with shining black dress shoes.
Personality:
As a child, Kaoru was very closed and cynical, and he found that the only person he could connect to and feel safe with was his brother. The two were inseparable and only spoke to one another, which means that they only reflected one another's thoughts. They treated all others badly simply because they wanted to be identified as individuals rather than a set. When no one could do this, they caused the people emotional pain in return. It was only when Tamaki was able to guess which was Hikaru (after countless failed attempts) that they decided to allow others into "their world."
Now when he is with his brother, Kaoru is usually extremely outgoing and enjoys causing trouble. Since the two have been together for so long, they often mimick each other's actions (sometimes inadvertently) or finish the other's thoughts. This can be confusing to some, but the two understand each other better than anyone else, and it happens so often that they don't realize it at times. There is no hesitation when the two are together, and Kaoru feeds off of his brother's mocking and rather rash behavior.
Apart from Hikaru, however, Kaoru is much more calm. He is level-headed and open-minded, and he picks up on important things easily, such as learning how to open up to other people. After they decided to expand their world, Kaoru was the one that was able to quickly let go of the idea that there was only Hikaru and him, and he made friends easily while his brother seemed to struggle. He and Kaoru are now close friends with everyone in the Host Club, and even when they seem to only want to play pranks on everyone, they deeply care for their friends.
While Hikaru is the more flamboyant of the pair and often is the one to take action and have fun, Kaoru is the more mature of the pair, and his clear thoughts often help the brothers out of more difficult situations that Hikaru or the two combined get themselves into. He can soothe his brother's fiery nature and make him think rationally, though this usually happens when the two are alone.
Kaoru also has a love of extremely spicy and Italian foods and loves his English and Modern Literature classes.
History:
Even though Kaoru was born into a rich family, he never felt quite whole. His mother, even though she was indeed the one to give birth to them, could never tell Kaoru apart from his older twin brother, Hikaru. Their father who runs a computer software company, however, is able to tell the two apart with his back turned and even gives them advice when the time seems right. He gave them hope and a sense of identity whereas the majority of people who met them was not able to tell which twin was which.
Their grandmother was one of the few people that they could rely on. She works with flower designs to the point that the colorful accessories eloquently ended up in her hair. They were intrigued by the complex designs and decided to help her by constructing a design. After their hard work had been finished, she told them ever so sweetly that she would use the drawing as toilet paper, and because of this, the two now think of her as a heartless witch that doesn't know how to be nice to others.
Because of this and the fact that there seemed to be no one besides their father that could tell them apart, Hikaru and Kaoru felt lost. They constantly held hands and refused to let go because they felt so safe together, and they increasingly became cold towards other people. They always stayed together and became extremely codependent. They became what some people would consider "psychic" by being able to tell what the other was thinking, but they were just knew each other well enough to be able to tell what would happen three steps later.
However, there was a maid that the twins felt close to. She was very kind to them, and they felt as if they could trust her, so they decided to put her to a test: if she could tell which of the twins was Hikaru and which was Kaoru, then they would give her the combination to the family safe so that she could steal some valuables; if she couldn't, they would activate the house alarm. Instead of trying to guess, she instead stole the code from them and said that no one would ever be able to tell them apart. Because of this, they created a "game" as a reminder of why they were so untrusting: Which One is Hikaru? Whenever someone guessed wrong, they would become honestly upset and bitter toward the person.
This continued through grade school, and the two would not allow anyone into their "world." That is, until one girl at the playground caught their attention. Everything was covered in snow, and they were sitting on a bench with their hands tightly clasped together when a little girl happened by them. After a short while, they asked if she wanted to play a game: Which One is Hikaru? Thinking that it would be just like always, Kaoru waited to be called by his brother's name, but instead, the two were caught completely off-guard when she guessed correctly. This opened their hearts a little more, and they watched, mesmerized, when she walked away.
After that, they decided to try to make the game harder: when people did guess correctly, they would laugh it off and pretend like the person was wrong. This always made the person second-guess and choose incorrectly. This, of course, upset them, but they began to feel a little better when more and more people would guess correctly the first time. That meant that they were becoming easier to distinguish, and it made Kaoru feel much more independent.
During middle school, the two were taken aback when a blond boy named Tamaki Suoh decided that he wanted them in his "Host Club." They were excited that they had been accepted by an "outsider," but they first put him to the test. They asked him to play Which One is Hikaru?, and Tamaki failed. Thinking that they had escaped him, they continued on their way only to be stopped again and again and again, and Tamaki even came into their classes to play the game. The twins could tell how determined (or how stupid) that he was, and they enjoyed his persistence while they were alone. After his stubbornness, Tamaki was finally able to truly tell the two apart and guessed correctly. They attempted to turn the tables on him only to find that he was set in his answer, and the twins stood, once again facing someone that could truly see them for who they were.
Kaoru and Hikaru joined the Host Club and eventually became close friends with all of the members. They still use the Which One is Hikaru game, though they don't take it as seriously anymore and use it as a sort of joke while doing their hosting duties.
