Takeshi muttered as he walked through the light of his day, one of the only things that made Ouran worth-while to the commoner. That was the rosebush maze. Takeshi had been working in that garden for three years and knew his way around it like the back of his hand. He also knew that people came here to whisper sweet nothings to the other rich people, and trampled or cut his flowers in the process. I don't care if people hang out here, but they could show a little more respect for my children, that would be nice. Takeshi thought as he surveyed the damage.
A certain first-year class had decided to use his garden for a project. Of course no one consulted the work-program student who cared for the maze like it was his child. So now, flowers were on the ground, hedges out of sync and he didn't even want to get started on the state of the topiary. Sighing like an older school teacher or scolding mother, Takeshi finished his route and pulled out his pruning supplies. He needed to fix things.
He started off by fixing the most problematic rosebushes, the ones that had flowers missing or were disproportionate to the others. With the practiced hands of a skilled worker, Takeshi maneuvered the remaining flowers into respectable conditions and hedge-clipped the overgrowing tops. It's what I get for not coming in this weekend. Takeshi thought as he went about the calming work. Soon he was farther into the maze, cleaning up a topiary and humming a light tune that he learned on the violin when he was very young.
The work was calming. Since he had the tune in his head, one Jacqueline used to sing while doing the dishes or working in their own garden back in Canada, Takeshi felt much more at ease than if he was just working to get it done. Not like he ever did that while caring for his children anyway. Cleaning up the flowers made him feel much closer with his mother as well, which was both a good feeling and a grieving one. He felt a pang of sadness when a particularly memorable story came to his mind. Naturally, Takeshi started to say it out loud.
"There once was a coven of tiny little elves. They were very poor and had to move from job to job to meet ends' meet. They were a big family, so naturally it took a lot of food and clothing to help them get through the day." Takeshi started, remembering his mother telling him this story while rocking Takeshi to sleep. She had smelled of lilacs that night, having worked with them before the night fell. "These elves were honest little creatures, the chief being the bravest and nicest of them all. Sadly, not everyone liked the chief. A tiny squat elf named Bart hated the chief because everyone like him instead of Bart."
Takeshi finished his topiary and moved on to a particularly tall hedge and began to trim it down a bit.
"Bart wanted to be chief, so he made a plan to get rid of Chief. One day while they were getting ready to move, Bart ran to the chief saying how there was a elf-factory opening up way in the cold, barren north. Chief wanted jobs for his coven, so he agreed to let Bart be in charge while the Chief went to go secure jobs at this factory. " Takeshi remembered very clearly when his mother told him this part, since they had been looking in each other's eyes.
"Why would Bart send the Chief away? Won't the chief know that Bart tricked him?" Young Takeshi asked his mother as they moved steadily back and forth in the chair.
"Bart is jealous, remember?" His mother answered simply, and kept on with the story after a short tousle of Takeshi's hair.
"There wasn't a factory in the north for the chief to go to though," Takeshi continued as he worked on picking up some fallen petals. "but Bart lied to keep him away. With the chief gone, Bart told everyone the chief deserted them, and that they needed a strong leader like himself to lead them on to their next job. The townspeople had no choice but to accept what Bart told them. Happy with himself, Bart started to control the coven, and ordered them all to pack up. They were going to move while the real chief was away, so chief would never find them aga-" Takeshi stopped when he heared the sound of a foot snapping a twig and the sound of someone breathing.
"Who's there?" Takeshi asked, brandishing his clippers. He hated being taken off-guard by these rich folk.

Yumi, once again, had been on another (what Suichi would call) "exploration trip". She had only been at the school for so long since she moved to Japan. Being the curious little thing she was, she was out to explore every inch of area she could get into; camera in hand, lolli-pop in her mouth. What was the point of living or being at a place you didn't know very well? What if there was some creepy stalker or killer chasing you? How would you know where all the good hiding spots were?
The answer was, you wouldn't! You would be running blindly, screaming your head off, and pick any spot that looked good! And not all spots that looked good were ideal for hiding! How would you know which turns to take so you could lose the guy? That always happened in movies. The girl would run, scream, think she picked a good hiding spot or lost him... then... BAM!!! She was caught and her head went rolling.
Yumi snickered to herself, pulling the lolli pop from her mouth by the stick. She laughed at herself after, stopping in her tracks. There she was, letting her imagination run wild again. There she was, letting her imagination rule her again. Not that it mattered. How was life fun if you didn't have an imagination? How would someone expect to have fun, draw, write, or produce something pretty if they didn't have imagination?! The girl didn't understand it. She didn't want to understand it, so she shrugged it off, before pulling the camera up.
The roses here were pretty. That's what drew her to the maze in the first place. Yumi had been walking around, looking for something to occupy her time while Suichi was busy. And, she found it when she noticed the red from a distance. Curious, she had to inspect it... and that's how she ended up wandering the maze. She took a few shots, before letting the camera hang from her wrist by the strap. She had finished her lolli pop, too... so, she tossed the useless stick into her bag. "Heaven, please sing for me a song of life, Heaven, take me into your skies~" She sang the two lines to herself multiple times as she walked and dug through her bag. She didn't know the rest of the song--that was the only part she knew. But it was such a pretty song!
Yumi was so distracted by her own actions (and current hunt for what was in her bag), she didn't notice that she'd stepped on a twig or even come into an area with another person. Side to him, she jumped, pulling her hand from her bag... and dropping the package of little debbie swiss roll cakes (Yum! Imported goods <3) she'd pulled out with it. "I didn't do it!!" She exclaimed, whining as if she was caught stealing from the cookie jar. She brushed long brown hair from her face, before holding her hands up.
"I didn't steal the last package of cakes! This is from yesterday!" She went on, obviously mistaking the boy for her brother, Suichi. Then again, if she'd been paying attention... she would've realized it wasn't him and the voice was too different to be her older sibling. Oops.

He was expecting some rich, gallivanting couple to come strolling through the rose-garden, or some kids looking for a place to smoke or do other neanderthal-esque things. He had already been set on giving the perp a reprimanding and sending them on their way back to civilization, and feeling quite good about himself afterwards. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like that was the situation, so Takeshi had to swallow his scolding words for the next time. "I didn't do it!!" A small, petite looking girl exclaimed as she brushed her hair out of her face. Takeshi wasn't expecting this, and had a few moments of dumbfoundedness before he realized that maybe the way he had come off to her had scared the rich poor girl. Taking a moment to imagine what he probably looked like, Takeshi had to refrain from laughing out loud at the ridiculousness. He imagined himself, tall and broad shouldered, with a crazy glint in his green eyes and his hair ruffling from the slight breeze; he held the clippers sadistically, as if he was going to hurt someone. Overall, his appearance could very well gain this sort of reaction from someone. It was only human nature after all. "I didn't steal the last package of cakes! This is from yesterday! The girl went on, and Takeshi wanted to laugh at this as well, but didn't to save embarrassment for the young lady. She was acting extremely not lady-like at the moment, and probably would be ashamed like all the other rich girls who populated the school. Like the ones who hit on him, only to find out he was a work-program student and then sputtered and acted all weird before exclaiming it was nice to meet him and running off to their clique of friends. Though, he'd never seen a girl this worked up over...Little Debbie cakes? A fleeting memory of picking up a box back in a Canadian supermarket and his mother explaining how unhealthy the snacks were. Takeshi gave a sigh at the memory and lowered his defensive stance and clippers. This girl is an interesting subject, different from others I've met, but only god knows whether that's good or not. It doesn't matter, she'll still have good things I can glean from her. Takeshi thought as he slid the clippers back on his work belt and smoothed out his hair with slightly dirty hands. He blinked a couple of times and looked back at the flowers he was re-arranging, hoping that for some strange reason, this girl didn't like flowers and took them from the maze. Takeshi walked over and picked up the box of sugary goodness from the manicured ground. He was definitely taller than the girl, but kneeling he still reached under her height. Handing the box to the girl, Takeshi decided to apologize for his rash question and rudeness to the girl. It was better to get on their good sides. "Hey, I don't care if you've stolen them or not. Generally it is preferred if you give compensation for these types of things though. Takeshi exclaimed in a quiet and friendly voice. He wanted to make sure she wasn't like, terrified of him or anything. "I should be apologizing though. It was rude of me to be in a threatening stance with these clippers, Takeshi exclaimed as he patted his tool, "So if I frightened you, I hope forgiveness can be in order? Giving her a bit of a small smile, Takeshi rubbed the back of his dark blonde head before introducing himself to the obviously younger girl. I'm Matsuzo Takeshi, Third Year. Tell me, do you like the maze?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Toshi of FYE

Yumi couldn't believe it. How did Suichi know she was in the rose maze? How did he manage to catch her with the last package of Little Debbie swiss roll cakes?! As much as she protested and claimed the package of little sugary treats was from yesterday... truth be told, she truely had stolen them. Yup. While Suichi was busy with homework, her step-mother was too busy to demand she take her "etiquette-lessons", and no one was looking... she snuck into their secret stash and took them. She was so sneaky! Quiet as a ninja, stalking the halls with the box under her arm she was POSITIVE no one saw her!
So how did Suichi catch her?! She was sure that he was supposed to be with his club; she was sure that he didn't know where she ventured. So how the heck...? "I'm not lying!" She claimed quickly, keeping her arms up, before her brother (who really wasn't anywhere near by) would claim otherwise. She could get through this! She'd lie through her teeth, make him believe her, and keep all the yummy cakes for herself. She'd sit, and eat them all, too. Yes. That's exactly how it would play out. And if that didn't work... well, she could always pull the tears. Suichi always managed to let her have her way when she cried (unless she was out to do something stupid and dangerous. Then the tears didn't work so well...).
If neither option worked, she figured she could always muster up the strength to let him have the box (WAHH. No! Not her cakes!). But, of course, that was a last resort. No way would she willingly give up an ENTIRE box of Little Debbie cakes! Whoever would do that was just plain stupid. They were way too delicious to let go to waste on someone else (then again, sharing them with someone wasn't so bad...). The girl was lost in her own world again, thinking over possible plans to get Suichi to forgive or believe her. And possible plans to steal them back later. The voice cut her from her thoughts, and that was when she realized that this boy was not Suichi. In fact, he looked NOTHING like Suichi. Although both boys shared the green eyes trait... this boy had dark blonde hair, not brown. Why didn't she realize before by the voice?
He was kneeling infront of her, her box of delicious goodies in his hand. She blinked a few times, bright green eyes staring at the green eyes of the boy. Her arms dropped and she was quiet. It may have seemed like she was embarrassed... but in truth, her brain was still processing what just happened. Seconds later, she laughed. Hard. "AHAHA! You're not Sushi! What was I thinking?!" She exclaimed loudly, using her nickname for Suichi, and pointing at his face. She was lost in a fit of giggles, a fit that had her bend over at the waist. Her arms wrapped around her stomach as she did, trying to stop the hurt! She was laughing way too hard. Hard enough that she started to cry. One thing this boy would learn pretty quick: Yumi was not lady-like at all. She wasn't a proper little rich girl at all. Nope. Instead she acted like a normal commoner, just the way she did back in America (well, if you COULD call her normal...; And she was easily amused.
Soon enough, she stopped. Yumi wiped tears from her eyes as she stood up straight, still soft giggles escaping her body. "I'm sorry, it was just so funny. I thought you were my brother." She said, taking the box from him. She stuffed it back into her bag, quick and in a hurry--just incase Suichi DID happen to wander by... ;; "I didn't steal them! They're rightfully mine! Suichi didn't claim the last box!" She huffed, hands on her hips. "And don't tell him either!" Lords knew that if he found out... she'd get the cold shoulder.
"Don't worry about it. No harm done." Yumi waved off the situation of him scaring her with her hand. So he gave her a bit of a fright... but she was the one who decided to take the box and bring it to school. Not that it mattered, really, another shipment would be coming in in a few days. Suichi would have a few boxes of cakes of his own soon enough. Yumi returned the smile with a small one of her own, again, brushing longer than waist-length hair out of her way. "I'm Yumi! Most people just call me Yu (or at least, back in America they did), though." She replied, skipping over her last name. She wasn't used to giving it out with each introduction. Besides, who cared? So her family owned a huge cosmetic-line. BIG DEAL. She didn't care.
"Oh yes! The roses are so pretty! That's why I came here. I wanted to take some home with me, to set in a vase by my bed," She started, then frowned. She looked down at her own feet, almost like a little kid. "But then I figured that wouldn't be right. Someone worked really hard to grow and make them this nice. It wouldn't be fair if I took them. So..." She looked up again, a grin covering her face as she held out a camera. "I took pictures! That way they can stay where they belong, and I can still take them home with me!!" She was hyper all over again...

the small girl claimed frantically, and Takeshi really had to fight not laughing at her reactions. It was as if she thought that he was her big brother or something. What a strange notion. Only sibling I’ve ever had was Kazuo, and he wasn’t exactly warm and inviting. Takeshi thought to himself as the girl went on to say something else strange. Her arms dropped to her sides and her eyes went a little bit wider, leaving Takeshi to wonder if he had startled the girl. What came out of that small mouth of hers seemed entirely made up by a feverish mind. Probably makes sense in her world, Takeshi thought as the words reached his ears. "AHAHA! You're not Sushi! What was I thinking?!" The girl exclaimed loudly as she went on laughing like there was no tomorrow. She was soon bent over at the sides laughing so hard her sides were probably splitting, and Takeshi stood their like the awkward kid he was, wondering what the heck was happening. Sushi? Little Debbie Cakes and firm denial of theft? How weird is this girl? She’s not like normal girls, that’s for sure. Takeshi thought as the girl went on laughing. Her laugh was contagious, and Takeshi found it hard not to laugh himself. He seemed to be fighting that urge a lot lately. "I'm sorry, it was just so funny. I thought you were my brother." Wait, she did actually think I was her brother? What’s the odds of me having that thought and having it actually happen? Can I tell the future? Takeshi wondered idly for a moment as the girl took her box of little cakes. In one day I will find a gift for my aunt and uncle. Takeshi thought to himself, hoping that he could at least have one other event come true. For the last week, Takeshi had been wanting to find a gift for his amazing guardians he stayed with, his aunt and uncle as a token of his appreciation for all that they had done, and continue to do for the older boy. He had no luck yet, because he wanted the gift to be perfect for them. I’ll just have to look harder. Takeshi thought to himself as the girl talked on. "I didn't steal them! They're rightfully mine! Suichi didn't claim the last box!" She huffed, hands on her hips. "And don't tell him either!" Wow, what a shift in behavior. Takeshi noted as she went from laughing and giggling to defiant in one fell swoop. Suichi....sushi? Is that what she meant when she said Sushi? Ah, that must be her brother then.Takeshi realized as he noted her stance. She actually looked pretty petite when she stood with her hands on her hips, and Takeshi thought that she must get her way by pouting and not actual strength. Who knows, I’ve been wrong all day about this girl, watch me be wrong again. the work-program boy noted as she waved off his apology like it was no big deal. "I'm Yumi! Most people just call me Yu (or at least, back in America they did), though." the small girl exclaimed, and Takeshi nodded in acceptance. It was nicer to know her name, if only it was the first one. He felt the need to have the names of most of the people he ran into in the maze, as not only did it help create a kinship with them, but he absolutely hated to forget names of people. His mother had said once that it was bad when you forgot someone’s name, so he had taken to memorizing them all. Besides, if he ever had to report someone for a crime, it helped to know their name. Not that Takeshi had ever needed to do that....yet. To listen to the girl talk about his roses, it was fascinating. Someone other than himself and the gardeners thought more of them than just decoration or a place to escape school. It was a place for escaping reality in general. "Oh yes! The roses are so pretty! That's why I came here. I wanted to take some home with me, to set in a vase by my bed, But then I figured that wouldn't be right. Someone worked really hard to grow and make them this nice. It wouldn't be fair if I took them. So I took pictures! That way they can stay where they belong, and I can still take them home with me!!" Yumi exclaimed, happily showing Takeshi a camera that he figured was filled with pictures of his children. He smiled genuinely at that, because usually these rich people just took what they wanted, and here was a girl who had probably stolen little-debbie cakes from her brother, but didn’t take his roses, but took pictures of them because she figured that someone worked hard on them. “It’s nice to hear that someone cares about my roses other than the gardeners and staff.” Takeshi exclaimed as he looked back at his topiary. His anger towards the student body diffused the tiniest bit, and Takeshi took his tools out of his belt and turned back towards Yumi. “I’ve been a work-program student here for three years and all I’ve worked on is this garden. I’m quite sad about leaving it after I finish school here.” Takeshi exclaimed as he pulled out a pair of small scissors. “Taking pictures is a good idea, Yumi. You should tell some of your friends that so I don’t lose many of my children this last year.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Toshi of FYE

Yumi loved the fact that she met someone new! He didn't seem like everyone else in the school. Most of them were a little stuck up, but they also seemed nice. Then again, she wasn't sure if they were being nice because her father made a lot of money with his company...;;. Or, maybe the other girls were just nice because they were looking to be her friend. That could always be a good thing! Unless they were looking for free make up and facial creams. Not that it really mattered anyways. Sure, she'd thought of those possibilities, but she didn't dwell on them.
She never actually had a bad idea of anyone--okay, scratch that. She DID, but that was of her step mother. It wasn't like the woman was bad, but her "proper lady" lessons were driving her nuts! Besides that, the girl liked to think best of everyone! What was the point in bothering with someone's bad qualities? There was none. In her mind, everyone had more or better good qualities than they did their bad ones. This boy was no different. She'd best to know his good qualities and ignore his bad ones! She'd yet to see any bad ones (okay, his little temper and clippers scared her a little...). His smile just managed to encourage the girl, though. Now she just wanted to take more pictures.
Yumi tilted her head to the side, brown bangs brushing against her forehead as they, too, tilted in the direction. "...Only gardeners and staff? Students don't care?" That was weird. Why wouldn't they care? The flowers were just too pretty not to care about! They were more than just something to cut and pick at! She scratched her cheek a few times, thinking about it. She had to admit... the kids of this school were spoiled. Too spoiled. So spoiled that they didn't seem to apprciate the simple things in life--like flowers. They all were sure different then the kids at public school. "Work-program student? What's that mean?" She asked, sitting down on a bench that was close.
She opened the box of little debbie cakes, pulling one out for herself. "Yummy, sugary goodness!" She squealed to herself, ripping the bag open. She pulled one of the chocolate spongey cakes out, and bit into it. "I just moved here from the States! Or... well, I came here with Suichi to live with my Dad. You see, we were living with our mom until a few weeks ago, actually." She stated after she chewed and swallowed. She took another bite. They were so good >w<! "You can't come back after you graduate to see them? Oh, I forgot to share... well, would you like package of cakies? They're really good! Don't say no if you never tried it!!"
Friends...? I only have one friend here, Ayame. Well, no! Make that two. I'm friends with that blonde haired Tamaki-guy! He gives me sweets! Lemon-y sweets!!" She gushed like a fangirl. To put simply, she wasn't gushing over Tamaki at all... but rather, the cakes that the Host Club served.

Maybe he wouldn't practice what he loves alone. Maybe he'd actually have some friends in the school for the rich. But where ever there was money, there was power and someone always had to abuse it. There would never be a year where everyone was nice and courteous. Never. There were people her like Kazuo, his half-brother for instance. Ruthless and cold and devoid of any light. They wanted money and would stop at nothing to get what they want. Yet, how could the same world of power and money that brought people like Kazuo and Haru, bring him to the likes of this girl in front of him. She seemed to be like a little kid almost, not wanting any money and very....animated. She was like a refreshing point for Takeshi, who, for some reason, seemed to only have to deal with the stuck up students who were greedy and never had to live the life that the work-program students did. They never experienced commoner life. Ever. Pampered, spoiled and rich. That's what a majority of the students were at Ouran. "...Only gardeners and staff? Students don't care?"' Takeshi shrugged as he worked on the topiary. Snipping a couple of stray branches off of it, he tossed them to the edge of the bush and looked back at her through foreign-blonde hair. Was the girl really that ignorant of the people at this school? These people took what they wanted and didn't look back. A first-year class just decimated his lower east section. He still wasn't done cleaning up the mess. It really was only the gardeners and staff that cared. Well, those and apparently Yumi. Another thing different about her than the rest of the student body. "It sure seems that way. If they cared, then why do the students steal my children? Or trample the low hedges just to escape the maze? Takeshi exclaimed as he finished the topiary. It was looking nice, at least better than before with it's missing flowers and branches hanging about. Sliding the small pair of branch scissors back into his belt, Takeshi turned to Yumi as she spoke more. "Work-program student? What's that mean?" Yumi asked, and confirmed his suspicions that there were still students who didn't know about students like him. Do they not educate the students that there is 'vermin' like me running around, making sure everything is perfect for them? Takeshi was slightly angered at this, but held his cool voice when responding to Yumi. "Let's see, how do I explain this to you?" Takeshi exclaimed as he walked around the little clearing. Setting his hands behind his back like a teacher would do while formally lecturing his students. "A work-program student is a student who cannot afford to go to this academy. We are what you refer to as...commoners. But since we work at Ouran, in my case, taking care of this garden everyday, the school generously pays our tuition in exchange for said service. " He could feel his tone becoming slightly more sarcastic at the end, but he tried to hide it. There was no reason for him to explain his inner thoughts about the matter to someone who was practically a stranger. Yumi seemed to be preoccupied with her sugary treats that were most likely stolen, so Takeshi went back to the hedges near the topiary to pick up the fallen debris from his trimming. Pulling a plastic sack about the size of a gallon from his back pocket, he quickly waved it in the air to open it and started to pick up the twigs. There was no need to leave it on his manicured grass to get stepped on! It would be unsightly! His mother never would have allowed it had she been there to see it. Hopefully she would've been proud too. He thought solemnly as he finished picking it up near the first hedge and quickly walked to the next. Crouching he did the same as Yumi went on talking. There didn't seem to be an off switch on the girl. . "I just moved here from the States! Or... well, I came here with Suichi to live with my Dad. You see, we were living with our mom until a few weeks ago, actually." She came from the states? How interesting. I guess there are more foreigners here than I thought. Takeshi was beginning to take an interest in this sugary-snack eating, flower loving girl. She was different than the students, and in a good way. Even if she never stopped talking. Her voice wasn't one to make him get annoyed. You came from the states? How nice. I too am a foreigner. Though I came from Canada about four years ago." Takeshi stated, very clearly not wanting to explain what made him come to japan four years ago. No one at the school knew, and he was going to keep it that way. There was no need for him to have a pity party. "Sometimes I miss back there, but I am quite happy here among my children. Japan is definitely different from North America, no?" Takeshi asked as he finished picking up the twigs from the second hedge and followed it around the clearing, crouching and picking up twigs. The bag was about one-third of the way full. "Oh no, I couldn't take some of your treats. I had them once or twice back in Canada but they never really struck my fancy. I guess I just don't like super-sugary things. I find I always have a stomach ache after eating them. Besides, they'll not help me when I try to swim." Takeshi stated. How could he take some of her treats when she had been so excited to eat them earlier? It'd be un-gentlemen like of him. Surely his mother would've explained to the girl, had she been there that he actually quite disliked the sugary treats. They messed with his stomach. "Friends...? I only have one friend here, Ayame. Well, no! Make that two. I'm friends with that blonde haired Tamaki-guy! He gives me sweets! Lemon-y sweets!!" Yumi trilled as he made his way even further around the clearing. Two friends? Well, she did say that she had just moved here a couple weeks ago. But still, shouldn't someone this friendly have more? Takeshi grabbed a handful of twigs and put them in the half-filled bag. "Well, I think now you can up that count to three, Yumi." Takeshi said quietly as he pondered over the name she said. Tamaki? Where had he heard that name before? He was blonde-haired, but Takeshi didn't think that this student was in his grade. He didn't socialize, but he did watch the student-body and his grade some-what religiously. Wait...isn't Tamaki that host club guy that every girl and then some gush over? I ... I think he is! Takeshi had an image of this guy in his head after hearing the third-year girls swoon for so long. It was a mystery why he didn't realize it sooner, having been at Ouran for longer than Tamaki... Isn't his father some higher up in the school? No wonder he seems to get to do whatever he wants.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Toshi of FYE

Yumi frowned. How could they NOT care about the plants? The flowers were too nice to be mistreated. She sweatdropped a bit, biting down on her lip. "So they do what I want to do..." She mumbled to herself. She had wanted to take some roses, oh so badly! But, something was telling her she should feel good about leaving them alone (aside from pictures). And within a few short seconds, she smiled. She felt good. Very good. She didn't make this guy angry with her! He was talking to her, which was a plus! At this point, some people tended to get annoyed with her nature.
Yumi started to hum to herself lightly, lost in her own little world. Well, not entirely lost in her own world. Yes, she was paying attention. She tended to do that often, go into her own world while keeping her ears open to whoever she was talking to. At least he didn't catch her when she was TRUELY lost in her own world. When that happened, everything else around didn't matter. Anything said to her then would go through one ear and out the other. She listened to him explain, nodding her head a few times to let him know that she was paying attention. Her head tilted up to look at him (and away from the snacks in her lap). She couldn't resist. She giggled at him. Well, more so at his "teacher stance". "Do you have to act like a teacher?" She asked, smiling.
"Oh. That just means you deserve to be here! You work hard, and as a reward you get a good education! Good for you!" She clapped a few times, meaning no harm by her words. Who knew how he would take it. "Commoner... so? I guess that's what you could say I was back home. I mean, I went to public school and stuff... so," She shrugged, not really caring. She admitted to herself, in her head... she missed it. Public school, all the people, her friends, and the cheap snacks! And not to mention her cat she had to leave behind with Miss Rivera--her usual babysitter when her mother was working. "I don't see a difference between us. Okay, so you're male and I'm not. Besides that, we're both people. I don't know why people get all excited over having money or not..." She muttered lowly, munching on her snack.
She really didn't get it. But, of course, she didn't care either. Everyone was the same, in her eyes (unless they were... some kind of criminal. Then they belonged somewhere else!). At least she'd come to learn, she wasn't the only one who wasn't from Japan here. Yeah, she was Japanese by blood, but she wasn't raised there. Making a small face, she dug into her bag for a bottle of water--one she'd brought from home in a hello kitty branded bottle. She took noe big gulp of it. It washed down the chocolate instantly, yet she still wanted more.
She frowned a bit, staring down into her lap."I miss the States. I had to leave my kitty behind. My step-mother's allergic to cats..." Yumi sighed from her nose, suddenly remembering the black fur ball she'd called "Midnight". "It is. I realllllyyy miss eating cheesesteaks! With lots of ketchup! And fries! With salt, pepper, kethcup, and a dash of hot sauce! Oh! Can't forget a delicious, cold Mountain Dew, either!" She grinned at the thought of food. Looks like sweets weren't the only things she'd loved to eat.
"Awww... that's too bad. They make your tum-tum hurt? You're missing out! Bad Takeshi's tummy! Bad tummy!" Yumi said, waving her finger, and looking towards his stomach... as if she was REALLY lecturing it. Silly girl. "You have to stop hurting him, or else he can't eat the delicious sweets in life!" She finished, putting her hands on her hips. She held that serious face for, maybe, a few minutes. She couldn't hold it back. She broke out into a fit of giggles.
"Tamaki's really nice. He talks kind of weird, and I don't really get what he says most of the time. But he feeds me sweets, and lets me talk... so we have a good understanding!" Oh yes. The compliments Tamaki had tried to give her at first... bounced off of her like they were being deflected by a shield! She'd only been interested in the food. "Three...? Really? Yay!" She jumped up, uncaring that the box of sweets fell out of her lap and onto the floor. She'd pick them up soon enough.
